Talk:List of elections in 2021

Next Scottish Parliament election edit

Should the Next Scottish Parliament election be added to this article. The election is scheduled to take place in May 2021 (like the Next National Assembly for Wales election which is included in this list), but theoretically could take place earlier. Unlike a United Kingdom general election, it is difficult for an incumbent government to trigger an earlier contest in Scotland, meaning it is relatively unlikely the date would change. That said it is not impossible that this could happen. Overall as the Welsh election is here I think the Scottish would be added, but would be interested in other editors views before adding it in. I think go with it. Like Next United Kingdom general election, we should assume the election will take place when it is legally required to under statute. Then if one is called earlier, we can adjust it as necessary. 82.16.219.36 (talk) 23:28, 5 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks - I have added it in along with the rescheduled London Assembly election. Dunarc (talk) 21:51, 16 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

Austria? edit

Why does Austria have a subheading when there's only one election listed? Are there other elections to know about?

Merger proposal edit

Nature of this page and that of 2021 national electoral calendar are almost identical. -- NYKTNE (talk) 09:48, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

It's more that the content here is needlessly listing national election, but the page should be kept imo to give links to local, national and supranational election pages.--Aréat (talk) 10:57, 1 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Correct, the content is redundant. The information should be merged into 2021 national electoral calendar, 2021 local electoral calendar, and a potential supranational electoral calendar. Hekerui (talk) 15:54, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Which could potentially already be created, considering there's been elections to the Central American Parliament and Andean Parliament already.--Aréat (talk) 11:08, 7 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I would oppose the merger, as a meaningful seperation between local, national and supranational elections in separate pages are extremely useful for the use of these pages. As the "list" page shows, it would be an extremely voluminous page with all elections at all levels included, which in turn would negative affect the quality of all three pages, as frequent and up-to-date edits by the community would be less frequent and less noticeable. WeifengYang (talk) 15:05, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I propose we simply make this page a short list redirecting to Supranational, national, and local elections pages.--Aréat (talk) 18:05, 18 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreeing with Aréat, I think that is the best solution. –boldblazer (talk) 22:26, 25 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
I will do so, then, if nobody's against. --Aréat (talk) 12:53, 31 May 2021 (UTC)Reply
shouldn't also apply to the elections between 2010 and 2020 because the are also in two different lists --Yveske31 (talk) 18:19, 02 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Boggio92: So what do we do about the redundancy with the national election page, and the random local elections that have been added here while others haven't?--Aréat (talk) 09:46, 4 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Well, I agree that is a good idea to merge these pages...but I was looking for the elections in Saxony-Anhalt and in the page merged it's just mentioned without a direct link. Maybe this problem could happen with other elections..So I'm not a wikipedia pro like you but If you merge the page and I can't find the information I was looking for..it's useless. Boggio92 (talk) 07:47, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

I just checked, and it's on the local election page. Both national and local elections pages are quite well filled, which is why this one isn't needed at this point.--Aréat (talk) 09:01, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's not true if you click on Saxony-Anhalt you are redirected here:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landtag_of_Saxony-Anhalt and not here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Saxony-Anhalt_state_election Boggio92 (talk) 18:01, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
The links to the election pages are on the elected bodies or function (notice the red links on many of them). So here you have to click on "Landtag".--Aréat (talk) 18:59, 6 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reverse the merger? edit

There are pages identical to this going back hundreds of years, if we're going to abandon this article we have to abandon all of them. I think we ought to centralize the national and local electioral calender articles into this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MayebhYT (talkcontribs) 17:14, 13 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

A merged page of both national and local elections would be a behemoth, quite unpracticable. National elections would be rendered almost invisible among them.
There's only ten pages that are redundant with separate split pages. We only have to extend the change to the pages from 2010 to 2020, the rest being unchanged.--Aréat (talk) 01:43, 14 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'm quite disturbed by this merger. Frankly it makes everything more complicated for no reason. I loved having one wikipedia article that showed all elections that year divided by continent. Now I have to go through several articles to have a full picture. So yes, reverse the merger please.--Slov Bruh (talk) 22:30, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Just checked. It seems the user Areat does this frequently and has been warned multiple times. I hope an admin can come around and revert the decision. --Slov Bruh (talk) 22:49, 2 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
