Talk:List of early-modern British women poets

Rename to indicate English-language only? edit

I'd suggest that this should be renamed to indicate that it includes early-modern English language or UK women poets, or expanded to include women poets of other languages and places. Sam 18:31, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good idea. I'll do it. scribblingwoman 19:05, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm also thinking of changing it from "early-modern" to "before 1800." Either that, or the list needs to have an earlier cut-off date. Ditto the List of early-modern women playwrights (UK). Not sure which way to go; the question of when the early modern period ends is somewhat unclear. "Before 1800" is more straightforward. Conversely, they could be "early modern/18thc," but that might get a little cumbersome. scribblingwoman 19:53, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm fairly neutral - dates are easier to compare cross-cultures, but I find them harder to conceptualize. Explaining the "before 1800" in the text may be the best of both worlds. Sam 20:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

A good source edit

FYI, http://rpo.library.utoronto.ca/timeline/ is a good source for additional information. We've been using it as one source in the List of years in poetry project, and the folks who did it seem to have a particular interest in women poets. Sam 20:08, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, that's useful. I know the RPO site, but hadn't seen the timeline. I think I will just use that model and remove some of the later names. scribblingwoman 21:10, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

"Women's literature" as an area of study edit

(I am posting this message on the discussion pages of several likely articles and lists; sorry for the cross-posting):

I'd like to invite anyone interested in women's writing to read and comment on a draft article, " Women's literature in English." It began in response to the recent removal of " Woman Writers" as a category. It's close to being finished, but a few more eyes would be really helpful. Thanks! scribblingwoman 16:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Update: I just (finally) submitted the category for review for reinstatement. Fingers crossed. scribblingwoman 15:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
