Talk:List of compositions by Thelonious Monk

Yeesh edit

It's an real insult to Monk to cram so many of his songs onto a single page. "Green Chimneys" - for example - gets 49 words. This is not pre-digital age. It's not as if paper and ink in bound Wikipedia books are involved. Saving space isn't needed. Give songs the pages they deserve. Why does this even need to be said? I bet a random U2 song is longer than the entire the "list of compositions by Thelonious Monk" page.

Surely ~0.01% of people who use Wikipedia are editors and they set the tone for everybody else. Nobody reading this understands. I'm shouting at a hurricane. I'll put it in a way you might actually be able to grok. Would you do that to Mozart compositions? Would you cram them all together? Of course not. Nah. You never would. Nobody here would. Never ever.

Wikipedia continues to get worse. Much worse. It's a real damn shame.

Final thought - ~0.01% might be far too optimistic a guess.

List of Mozart's compositions on one page: Köchel catalogue. But yes, some more of Monk's compositions should have their own article. EddieHugh (talk) 17:12, 5 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Several of Monk's compositions did have their own articles that were then merged into this list, e.g.:
Admittedly, most of these articles were short. – Tea2min (talk) 08:30, 3 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Catalogue edit

Would you think it a good idea to rather organise the compositions chronologically than in the alphabetical order?

And maybe Indicate the number of items in the list?

Thought this might help grasp how Monk's composition style evolved through time.

Really this ought to be one giant table, with columns for date registered, first played, length (in bars), key etc. Mach61 (talk) 19:50, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yes. Make chronological, for the reason that you said, talk, to show evolution over time. Very good suggestion for the table, Mach61. The example of the table of songs in Great_American_Songbook#List_of_songs is a good format.Dogru144 (talk) 15:47, 9 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
