Hello,
The head of the number six mine shaft of Wellington Colliery is actually 300 metres west of Northfield Road Intersection of Hwy 19. (Proceeding 'so called' north on Island Pkwy.) Though the underground workings extended to Grants Mines on the east, they also proceeded along the Parkway 'northward.' The green space belonging to the city of Nanaimo that shows a connection to Maxey Road and the shaft is about 30 metres south off Pkwy Trail on the cinder track that leads to Maxey and about 10 metres west. You will find a depression that marks the shaft. The slack pile is further west. The Parkway Trail showing drill marks was actually the rail bed of the Wellington Colliery. ronfblankRonfblank (talk) 18:02, 7 May 2016 (UTC) —Ronfblank (talk) 18:02, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Ronfblank: I'm having a hard time figuring out, from your description, exactly where the thing is. I see that our coordinates are too far east, but I can't locate the mine-shaft head on the aerial map. If you go to Google Maps and click on the spot, there should appear a little box containing (along with, perhaps, a small street-view image) the coordinates in decimal format. Could you copy those coordinates here to clarify your request? Deor (talk) 20:29, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
