  • Jeruk Purut region in Jakarta. Many people claim that they have seen a ghost of a beheaded Christian priest walking around the cemetery around the region. Most of the stories regarding the appearance of the ghost have become a local urban legend for decades.[citation needed]
  • ModernLand real estate area in Tangerang. There are many stories about the appearance of a ghost of a knight on horseback at night, or a floating silk cloth in the skies at certain nights.[citation needed]

Ireland edit

  • Temple Michael in County Cork is a little known church and castle (temple) located on the Blackwater River near Youghal. This disused church/temple overlooks the blackwater river from its perch surrounded by oak and beech trees. Many locals, (and non locals) who have visited this place have reported hearing blood curdling screams, seeing moving lights, unexplained static on cameras over the church grounds, breaking twigs, and coffins in a tomb that are visible that are closed when you enter, but open when you leave.[citation needed]
  • Correagh Cottage in County Westmeath. No longer standing, the ghost of Angela Fetherstonhaugh is believed to haunt its ruins. The spirit is said to be that of a young woman who was found stabbed in the cottage in the seventeenth century by an infatuated family friend. Angela is believed to soley haunt the male visitors to the ruins, who have a reputation of being laddish or callous with women. Those who claim to have been haunted by her tell of a strong smell of perfume, and complain of anything from rearranged furniture, spoilt clothes, empty liquor bottles, blunted or missing knives, blood tinged water, and year long failed attempts at seduction.   • Convent of Mercy Primary School, Ballina in County Mayo is said to be haunted by the Red Nun. The Red Nun is said to be the spirit of a strange cruel Sister who taught in the school in the early twentieth century. Appearing in an unusual red habit (the Sisters of Mercy normally wear blue), the Red Nun has been reportedly sighted by many teachers and pupils wandering around the upstairs of the old building of the school since the 1930s. It is also said that the Red Nun can be summoned by entering a dark wardrobe and reciting her name several times.[citation needed]

  • The Tomb of Taira no Masakado, located near Otemachi, Tokyo is allegedly haunted by Masakado himself. Some believe the death of Seiji Hayami, the Minister of Finance as well as ten other government officials in 1926 is related to the temporary removal of the tomb during the 1920s when an office for the Ministry of Finance was constructed over it. According to the story, an attempt by a bulldozer to remove the tomb ended when its driver died as the bulldozer overturned.[citation needed]

  • Balete Drive - The street is known for alleged white lady apparitions and haunted houses built during the Spanish Era (1800s).[citation needed]
  • Diplomat Hotel - A monastery turned hotel is now an abandoned building found on Baguio. It is the site of series of murders that occurred during the Japanese occupation in the World War II.[citation needed]
  • Baguio City - is famous for numerous allegedly haunted sites including the Teacher's Camp.[citation needed]
  • The former City College of Manila, now Universidad de Manila in Escolta, Manila is rumoured to be haunted by ghosts. According to local weekend talk show program Mel and Joey, the structure once housed the Philippine National Bank and was called the Crystal Arcade. Supposed hauntings are attributed to a girl murdered on the site and others who died in the nearby bay. [citation needed]
  • Manila Film Center - In 1981, First Lady Imelda Marcos ordered that this venue be built to host a film festival in order to improve the nation's reputation. Rumors are told that during construction, an accident occurred in which 170 workers were killed and/or initially entrapped, and Mrs Marcos decided not to have the workers rescued so that construction would be completed, hence their ghosts continue to haunt the building. Eventually, the building was condemned, though condemnation was lifted in the early 2000s. The building remains abandoned except for squatters.[citation needed]

  • Arsenal Stadium, The former home of Arsenal Football Club was said to be haunted. The former manager Herbert Chapman was allegedly seen and heard walking around the Marble Halls of the East Stand.[citation needed] Also, a white horse was said to have haunt the North Bank Stand at this stadium.[citation needed]
  • The Bishop Lacey Inn in Chudleigh is said to be haunted by several nuns. The story is that they were making their way from the pub to the church opposite through an underground passage when the tunnel collapsed, killing all the nuns. Several years later, when a new road surface was being applied above, several bodies were found where the tunnel would have been.[citation needed] Strange noises, doors banging, and people seen walking up a staircase but never reaching the top have been reported.[citation needed]
  • The streets of Brixton, south London, are reputed to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman, a rare example of a ghost in an urban area.[citation needed]
  • Castle Grant in Grantown-on-Spey, Scotland. Lady Barbara Grant is reported to haunt the tower of the Castle, known as Babetts Tower. It is said that some workmen, disturbed at night by sounds of footsteps, doors, crying, and voices, supposedly fled the castle and refused to work there again.[citation needed]
  • Chillingham Castle in Northumberland is reputed to be one of the most haunted places in the world.[citation needed] This remote, eerie castle is regularly featured on paranormal TV and radio programs.[citation needed] It is believed that every room in the castle is haunted by at least one spirit.[citation needed] Famous ghosts include the Blue Boy — the ghost of a young boy whose body was found bricked-up in a wall between two parts of the castle.[citation needed]
  • Chislehurst Caves in Greater London are reputed to be haunted by the apparition of a girl who drowned in a rockpool deep within the caverns.[citation needed]

  • Mary King's Close in Edinburgh, Scotland is reportedly one of the most haunted places in Scotland. The close, built in the 1600s, housed hundreds of people who were quarantined in their homes during the terrible outbreak of the plague of 1645. People have reported not only hearing voices, but seeing a lady dressed in black, dogs, and a girl called Annie who was found by a Japanese psychic in 1993.[citation needed]
  • Minsden Chapel in Hertfordshire is reputed to be haunted by a monk climbing stairs which no longer exist.[citation needed]
  • Ordsall Hall in Salford is said to be haunted by the "White Lady" who allegedly committed suicide by throwing herself off a balcony overlooking the Great Hall. Staff say they have heard footsteps down the only set of stairs in the gift shop. Alleged paranormal activity at the site was featured during an episode of the television show Most Haunted.[citation needed]
  • Ostrich Inn in Colnbrook, is alleged to have recently started to experience poltergeist activity, witnessed by live-in staff and customers.[citation needed]
  • Pluckley in Kent is reputed to be the most haunted village in Britain, with claims to have 12 established ghosts and one that has only recently started appearing.[citation needed]
  • Stabane Grammar School in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It was once a convent but is now a school. It's supposedly haunted by two nuns: a white nun who goes into local houses through the window and leaves through the door, and a black nun who enters through the door and never leaves.   • Towneley Hall near Burnley in Lancashire: an allegedly spectral White Lady.[citation needed]
  • Upton Court in Upton, Slough, is said to be haunted by a girl of about 18 in a bloodstained nightdress on some Friday evenings, seen walking towards the main door of this late-medieval manor house. It is now owned by the Slough Observer newspaper. Similar sights have been reported at St Laurence's Church next door.[citation needed]

  • 514 E. 2nd Street in Bloomington, Indiana is reportedly haunted and known for various paranormal phenomena and events. Residents have reported sickening smell drifting throughout the house being emitted from the basement. Other eerie effects, such as food being taken, unclaimed dirty dishes being found, and shaving cream sprayed on the bathroom walls, have been witnessed.[citation needed]
  • Carroll County Court House, Westminster, Maryland. It is said the smell of cooking is reported coming from the basement where poor families were once housed in the 1840's, and that the property is haunted by ghost of a judge who died in the building. Supposedly, a State Trooper refused to guard the Court House at night because of strange noises on the upper floors.[citation needed]
  • Chickamauga Battlefield in northwest Georgia, site of one of the bloodiest battles of the American Civil War. According to some, Chickamauga is haunted by the ghosts of killed soldiers and a frightening entity known as "Green Eyes"[citation needed]
  • Several buildings located at Church Street Station in Orlando, Florida are reported to be haunted. While the attraction itself has been closed down for a few years, many of the remaining local businesses have moved elsewhere, supposedly because of the paranormal phenomenon. Church Street Station is now, however, a very popular tourist destination for ghost hunters, parapsychologists, and paranormal enthusiasts.[citation needed]
  • Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas - One of the most famous hotels in the state of Texas, and long a gathering place for the state's political players, it is said to be haunted by at least half a dozen ghosts, including the spirit of a young girl heard bouncing a ball down the main stairs; the ghost of founder Jesse Driskill himself; and a "suicide bride" who killed herself in room 427 in 1989.[citation needed]
  • Forest Park Cemetery, in Brunswick, New York, gained notability as a result of a magazine article that listed it as one of the Top 10 Haunted Places in America. It is said that many have reported strange activities there. The cemetery itself is in a state of disrepair.[citation needed]
  • The Gamble House in Pasadena, California. There are said to be reports of noises, temperature drops, and footsteps centered around a bedroom where an elderly woman (Aunt Julia) supposedly died. A story has circulated regarding a docent who brought her young grandson to the house in 1990. The boy reported talking to an old woman in the bedroom, and when shown a picture of Aunt Julia, he is said to have replied, "Yep, that's the nice lady I was talking to!"[citation needed]
  • The World War II era aircraft carrier USS Hornet (which is no longer on active duty.) Alleged sightings of ghosts of World War II crewmen walking around the interior of the ship, corridors and catwalks late at night. [citation needed]
  • Huntress Hall in Keene, New Hampshire - A college resident hall located at Keene State College, said to be haunted by the ghost of the dorm's namesake, Harriet Huntress. Students are said to often report strange noises coming from the attic, where her wheelchair still rests to this day.[citation needed]
  • The King George Inn Restaurant in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The apparitions of a woman and young child who are dressed in 1700s style clothing, are said to have been sighted walking from the entrance into the dining room, along with the sounds of a baby crying have been heard in the kitchen, close to an old well in the basement.   • The Lemp Mansion Restaurant and Inn in St. Louis, Missouri is said to be haunted by ghosts of the members of the Lemp family. Four of the Lemp family members committed suicide. Supposed manifestations include glasses flown off the bar, feelings of being watched, apparitions, etc.[citation needed]
  • The Mansion, owned by music producer Rick Rubin in Los Angeles. Many musicians have allegedly reported that eerie situations have happened. It is rumored that the house has been haunted since the 1920s, when the son of a furniture store owner pushed his homosexual lover from the balcony.[citation needed]
  • Matheny's Bridge near Section, Alabama is reportedly haunted by a coffin which can be seen floating underneath the bridge late at night and the ghost of a baby which can be heard crying on nights with a full moon.[citation needed]
  • The Masquerade, a now-defunct performance theatre/music venue located in the historic entertainment district of Ybor City in Tampa, Florida, is said to house ghosts whose moods were dictated nightly by the quality of music played.[citation needed]
  • Moonville, Ohio - A forgotten mining and railroad ghost town, little left behind to mark its place except a railroad tunnel allegedly haunted by three spirits. The town's cemetery is also supposed to be haunted.[citation needed]
  • Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, Louisiana claims to be the most haunted house in the United States. The Myrtles Plantation is a bed-and-breakfast inn located on the outskirts of St. Francisville, 30 miles north of Baton Rouge.[citation needed]
  • New Orleans, Louisiana - Numerous sites in this city, especially in the French Quarter, claim multiple hauntings. Arnaud's and Brennan's restaurants, the Hotel Monteleone, the park and cathedral at Jackson Square, and most of Royal Street are among the French Quarter's most famous allegedly haunted sites. Since Hurricane Katrina, it is claimed that many residents report higher paranormal activity than usual.[citation needed]
  • Ohio State Reformatory - nineteenth century prison reputedly haunted by a Mrs. Glattle, who was killed in 1950 when a gun accidentally fell and discharged. [citation needed]
  • The Old Jail House of St. Augustine, Florida, which is said to be haunted by the spirits of prisoners.[citation needed]
  • The Old Town section of Spring, Texas is reputed to host many ghosts, including spirits from Spring's days as an American Old West town, and a bank robbery credited to Bonnie and Clyde.[citation needed]
  • Pali Lookout, Hawaii. Site of a battle between O'ahu forces and King Kamehameha's invading army. According to Hawaiian legend, night marchers (huaka‘i po in Hawaiian) are ghosts of ancient warriors. They supposedly can be seen by groups of torches.[citation needed]
  • Point Pleasant, West Virginia is famous for the legend of Mothman who has been claimed to be sighted numerous times since the late 1960s. Various rumors of UFOs, haunted hotels, and Men in Black make this town a popular destination for tourists. A movie, starring American actor Richard Gere, was made which was loosely based on the stories of Mothman.[citation needed]
  • Race Rock Light - a lighthouse on Race Rock Reef, southwest of Fishers Island, New York. The reef is a dangerous set of rocks off the coast of Fishers Island on Long Island Sound and was the site of many shipwrecks.[citation needed]
  • The Staup house in Jasper Township, Michigan is said to be haunted by a dead farmer and his family.[citation needed]
  • Summerwind - A mansion located in Wisconsin with 70 years of alleged ghost sightings.[citation needed]
  • The Union Hotel in Flemington, New Jersey, famous for housing national and international media during the trial of Bruno Hauptmann for the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby, is today just a restaurant. However, the upper floors that were once hotel rooms are used for some of its back offices, and employees working there have reported ghost sightings and poltergeists.[citation needed]
