A note on the title: The European Community is a legal entity which is geographically identical with the European Union (but legally one of several distinguishable parts, or pillars of the EU), and since the latter is a more widely known and used title it seems more logical to use it. --Oden 20:08, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Questions

edit
    • Six months later and there's still no clear explanation of why these carriers are banned from the EU. Seems like that would be an important part of the article. If any editors have an understanding of this, it'd be a helpful addition. 70.116.9.52 (talk) 16:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
bans can be based on concerns about safety, security, or basically whatever. One national authority (or the EU as a whole) can raise concerns and if enough people agree the airline or country gets banned, sometimes overnight. There is no set rules, sometimes the bans are seemingly purely political (like the current banning of all Russian and Belorussian airlines, and in the past the banning of Garuda Indonesia was largely economical (Germany complained because of strong competition between Garuda and Lufthansa on the profitable cargo routes to Asia, hiding the true motivation in concerns about safety of Indonesian aviation as a whole, when none of the accidents and incidents listed had any relations to operations of aircraft to and from Europe. I had contact with Garuda at the time, having just completed a contract for them to rebuild their cargo administration software, it came as a complete surprise to them). 2A02:A465:E6FB:1:D99D:D9AC:AC1C:2101 (talk) 06:40, 6 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have added an explanation under background. MilborneOne (talk) 18:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ariana

edit

If Ariana is totally banned why does it have an A321 flight from Frankfurt? WhisperToMe (talk) 08:01, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just to repeat my answer to the same question on Ariana Afghan Airlines for information - Ariana is using a Turkish-registered (TC-TUC) Bestair A321 on short lease. The eu document says Air carriers listed in Annex A could be permitted to exercise traffic rights by using wet-leased aircraft of an air-carrier which is not subject to an operating ban, provided that the relevant safety standards are complied with. I just noticed this one Yahoo which might be helpful to the article [1]. AfroGold - Afkatk 00:46, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of article as it currently is largely a mere list, not an encyclopedia article

edit

The article should be re-written in terms suitable for an entry in an encyclopedia. It needs to give real information about the list and related topics, with citations, rather than really acting as a mirror for it, and a potentially permanently outdated one at that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.105.29.228 (talk) 16:04, 21 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Syrianair?

edit

Syrianair haven't flown to the EU since July 2012, and its not on the EU Airline Blacklist, how come it's not listed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.89.97.80 (talk) 02:18, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well probably as you just said it is not on the blacklist so it is not banned. MilborneOne (talk) 11:10, 29 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ukraine?

Why does the map show Ukraine as "Some airlines banned", when none are listed. Mirza Ahmed (talk) 09:19, 3 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Why do some parts link to the list of airlines in a country, while other parts link to the country itself? Which link type is preferred, or are the links different on purpose? ElToAn123 (talk) 01:44, 2 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
