Talk:List of Sonic the Hedgehog comic book characters/Archive 2

Why isn't Knuckles listed at all? His name is in the descriptions, but he has no entry.

A few things:

  1. Are we including the TV shows here?
  2. I could see merging minor characters here, but surely the major characters have enough notability for an article?

This isn't the place to discuss which articles should be kept. To do that you need to head over to WikiProject Video games.Fairfieldfencer FFF 07:17, 7 July 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, followed the wrong link.

Merge/Redirect

  • There was a merge and redirect of this page followed by a huge amount of cutting of the target page. I think some discussion is needed here. Why is the redirect needed? Hobit (talk) 21:36, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Uh, it should be quite obvious that the lists were split because of size issues, so putting them back together after such issues are resolved is the correct way to do things. TTN (talk) 21:39, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Your comment in the revert claimed that no content was lost. I was responding to that. Given the size and breadth of this series I'd rather see too much coverage than too little. Hobit (talk) 00:49, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Even if it were left as a separate article, I would still chop away the cruft. Content that will be chopped away in this merged list would be chopped there as well. TTN (talk) 01:36, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
And I might restore that cruft as might others. This topic has gone round and round before (thus being on my watch list), and I continue to object to chopping away at this without discussion from those who know something about the subject. Get something resembling consensus from folks who know the topic and I'll be happy with whatever. Hobit (talk) 13:26, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
Also, could you explain what you meant by "It was a straight merge directly to the main list. Absolutely no content was lost" when you are in fact chopping stuff quite freely? I can't find a way to read that which doesn't make it a fib. Hobit (talk) 13:29, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
And it would be reverted back to the trimmed version because there are actual standards. People like you may value eighteen paragraphs of plot information, but there are standards that eventually form featured articles and lists such as Master Chief (Halo) and List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow. The definition of good, noteworthy articles laid down by inclusionists like you (and the diehard fans you fight so hard to keep this kind of content for) does not match those two at all. I will not be forced to have a discussion for a dead topic. Discussion is not mandatory on this site. If nobody cares, nobody cares. This is one of the perfect times for m:Don't be a dick. No content was removed or chopped during the merge, and I still haven't actually chopped any of it. TTN (talk) 15:19, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
The redirect and merge are necessary for the simple reason that this character is not sufficiently notable to warrant its own article. If you believe it is, you can feel free to provide evidence in the form of reliable, third-party commentary and sourcing that doesn't focus on the plot of the work. Until then, redirecting to the list is the best option.—Kww(talk) 19:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I've asked TTN elsewhere, but I'll ask here too. In what policy or guideline do we disallow sourcing that focuses on the plot of the work? There may be one, but I didn't think there was. Hobit (talk) 20:12, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
We don't disallow sourcing that focuses on the plot of the work, but the use of them only increases the coverage of the plot-based elements of the article. Going down that path runs you into WP:NOT#PLOT pretty quickly. If you can only find sourcing for plot elements, you can't produce an article that isn't a plot recap.—Kww(talk) 21:32, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I strongly disagree with that reading of WP:NOT. But later we can discuss that, off for a bike ride! Hobit (talk) 21:37, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
I agree with Hobit as the characters are sufficiently notable for a paperless encyclopedia. Improving the character's article is clearly the route to take. Sincerely, --A NobodyMy talk 19:35, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Note: I've posted a link at the Comics and Video Games projects to this discussion. I suspect the Comics folks will favor the redirects and the video games people not (as Sonic is huge in one domain and not in the other) but we'll see what the wider discussion brings. For those joining the discussion, the issue is which, if any, characters on this list should have their own article. I've undone a few bold article redirects to here (Sally Acorn, Mina Mongoose, and a few others). The question at hand is if they should be articles or redirects to here... Hobit (talk) 20:29, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Here's a full list of articles TTN listed as mergefroms, with links to pre-merge versions:
Of those, only Mina Mongoose and Princess Sally Acorn have anything even remotely resembling real-world perspective, and even then both articles only have uncited speculation and conjecture with respect to the characters' concept and creation. Condensing these articles into a list format is the way to go. Nifboy (talk) 21:41, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
Merging these into a list is the right thing to do. --TorsodogTalk 14:32, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Merge with Minor Freedom Fighters

Lists of minor anything are not appropriate on Wikipedia; these characters should be listed with the rest. If that would make this list too long, the entries should simply be compressed. Neelix (talk) 20:06, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

i think King Zokar is in Sonic Underground, though i don't remember the name of Sonic's mother, she waas definately mention in the show.Sclera2 (talk) 07:54, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Cast Creation and Influence

This section contains a single sentence that is unsourced and says little. I suggest that it should be removed.Aero-Plex (talk) 23:17, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
