I've made a start in putting this list into table form, using List of Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Somerset as the example. Haven't worked out how to list the citation sheets the same as in Somerset but will no doubt work it out eventually. Jowaninpensans (talk) 13:14, 7 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

I feel uneasy about including SSSI in the Isles of Scilly within the Cornish list. I've never considered the Isles of Scilly to be part of Cornwall and as far as I am aware Scillonians do not considered themselves Cornish. Therefore it is misleading to record 167 SSSI in Cornwall as some of them are in Scilly. Jowaninpensans (talk) 16:14, 9 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Excellent work getting the list formatted! I think this would be an great candidate for a future featured list. We'd still need to write a decent lead section I think the Somerset and Isle of Wight SSSI lists are good examples of this. We'd also need to ensure that virtually all entries have an article link and are not red linked. I thought that this might be quite a good guide to follow as to where to put SSSI entries for consistency and to try to avoid an excessive amount of small stubs which just state that "such-'n'-such is an SSSI in Cornwall":

  • SSSI's that are part of a location or specific thing should be located in that article, with a section/paragraph about the nature of the SSSI in that article. Such as "Lynher Estuary" being linked to "River Lynher", and separately "Dozmary Pool".
  • SSSI's that are of the form "X and Y" can be linked to both individual articles - especially if they already exist, or can be expanded in their own right, as an "X and Y" article will really only ever be for the SSSI. An example being "Trevose Head And Constantine Bay".
  • Geographically small or otherwise non-notable SSSI's that might not warrant an article on their own maybe best linked to a nearby settlement article or the civil parish article (either directly or through a redirect), with a section/paragraph on the SSSI in that article. (These can be later split into their own articles if necessary). An example being "Trelow Downs" could be linked to "St Issey".
  • SSSI's that are of the form "X to Y" should probably be in their own article for it covers multiple continuous areas at once (possibly over a couple of civil parishes). Such as "Aire Point to Carrick Du SSSI".

The above seems fair enough, I'll make a start with the obvious ones first.

Great, I'll help as well - I'm thinking now that redirects may be better than direct piping of links for most SSSI's (eg Amble Marshes - which is not a whole part of the R. Camel), for future expansion. But where the SSSI is a direct whole part of something else piping is still best (eg Bodmin Moor, North and the above Lynher Estuary). Wheal Martyn SSSI link to Treverbyn which is in the parish or to Clay Trails? Both mention Wheal Martyn museum. My preference is Treverbyn. Jowaninpensans (talk) 16:16, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I think it's better to link to a geographic location (either nearby village, land formation or civil parish) rather than something with a specific use, in this case a cycle route. I'll do that now. Cheers, Zangar (talk) 17:21, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Many of these geological sites are within the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape so shouldn't we to have links to that as well? Jowaninpensans (talk) 18:10, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dead links edit

It is going to be a labour of love to change all the links! I changed a couple with the new url and they both worked the first time although the maps were fuzzy and I needed to click on the map to get a clear picture. Tried the link a second time and I am getting a map of the UK and Europe. Jowaninpensans (talk) 11:14, 22 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

GeoTool edit

I wanted to use GeoTool as featured on this page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Sites_of_Special_Scientific_Interest_in_Derbyshire

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:GeoGroup

But the table of locations is formatted improperly for the tool by the look of it. Might get back to this, Cheers DJ Barney (talk) 16:46, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Out of date statement edit

The statement that Natural England uses out of date boundaries for counties is out of date. This list has now been split on the NE database with the Isles of Scilly having its own list. Dudley Miles (talk) 10:51, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
