References edit

I don't really see how the refs can be improved here. The 1990 edition of the Chess Encyclopedic Dictionary is expensive, difficult to find and in Russian, but is the definitive reference work on Soviet era chess. I'll admit that I haven't sighted the reference personally, but I have copied material from the Russian and German wikis which refer to it. MaxBrowne (talk) 05:02, 28 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I've reached out to a chess editor who has a great understanding and excellent sources on Soviet and Russian chess. Maybe he will be able to help. Quale (talk) 06:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for being MIA from Wikipedia for the the last 5 months or so! I am the editor Quale is referring to above; while I can't think of any definitive reference I have off the top of my head, I will rummage through some of my Russian-language chess biographies/historical perspectives. Unfortunately, most are devoted to individual players, so my hopes of finding a comprehensive list are slim. Incidentally, I should note that like many such awards in the former USSR, the selection process was highly, highly political. ChessPlayerLev (talk) 04:41, 13 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
