List of successful Hail Marys in American footballList of notable Hail Mary passes in American football – The term "Hail Marys" sounds much like a slang term. Also, there would be these benefits:

  • This edit can be reverted. Everything written in the section is about unsuccessful Hail Mary pass attempts, and, although it doesn't match the current name of the title, it is still of interest to most readers.
  • You won't have to worry about "missing a few". The current name suggests this is a list of every Hail Mary pass in the history of mankind. We only care about the notable ones, and those are the ones included.

A rename would probably help. --67.180.161.183(talk)03:25, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

  • Rename to List of Hail Mary passes in American football -- since they will have to be notable to be included in a Wikipedia article in any case, and there is no need to be successful to be notable. 70.24.251.208 (talk) 11:17, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Move to List of Hail Mary passes. Is there some other sport that features Hail Marys? Kauffner (talk) 14:20, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
Dunno. What about Canadian Football? —Al E.(talk) 18:03, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes, "Hail-Mary pass" is a term that is used in Canadian football. See, e.g., [1]. Good Ol’factory (talk) 02:03, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Support moving away from the current title, although other suggestions are worth noting. In much of the world, greater than the USA, the Hail Mary refers to the prayer not anything in American football. The current title suggests a list of players who prayed to the Virgin Mary for a win etc. and whose prayers were granted. PatGallacher (talk) 17:12, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
  • I support the move, per PatGallacher. —Al E.(talk) 18:03, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
  • Comment, I believe someone said that it is too borderline for unsuccessful Hail Mary passes to be considered so. It should not be difficult to distinguish. A quarterback typically has two throwing motions-- they can throw the ball like it's a dart, and it will hit the intended receiver (or not) in less than a second, or if there are too many players in between him and the receiver, he can "loft" it in the air and let it fall into the receiver's hands. If they "loft" it, they don't always have an intended receiver. A Hail Mary pass is a "loft" pass that goes straight to the endzone. Not very many plays are designed to go past 30 yards, so if they aren't darting it to a specific guy, then it's probably a Hail Mary. There's not much gray area here, and it shouldn't be a WP:NPOV issue. --67.180.161.183(talk)23:59, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
