It's writen :

Each satellite is named after a child that won the European Commission's Galileo drawing competition. One winner was selected from each member state of the European Union

Unfortunately, sourcing is very poor. Currently, only single item (for not yet launched satellite) is is with a reference, which does not link recent competition-selected names to specific sats. —Mykhal (talk) 12:06, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

GIOVE should be included.

Dear Galactic Penguin SST, Brilliantwiki2 and SkywalkerPL. Since you keep this page up to date, don't you believe that for historical purposed GIOVE missions A and B should be included? They were not complete not operational, but were critical to keep the radio frequencies and for testing the ground receptors. I've taken the liberty of putting both launches in a comment. I don't see why not given that I have listed the Block I satellites of the GPS system and the the Chinese BeiDou-1 experimental satellites, which are similar in nature to the 2 GIOVE satellites, in their representative lists. ;) Galactic Penguin SST (talk) 14:47, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

Status of temporary unavailable satellites

We shouldn't change the status of a satellite if it is unavailabe for just a short time. There was a planned outage of GSAT0101 (http://www.gsc-europa.eu/notice-advisory-to-galileo-users-nagu-2016009) and it's status was change to "In commissioning". I suggest we should only change the status if the outage is indefinitely or permanent. I did installed a Galileo unit. Despite all my tries I only got 2 satellites : E18 and E26 Of course no position

When the system will be usable ?

Removed outage paragraph from this page

I removed the paragraph about the outage from this page.

Basically I feel that it doesn't belong on a "list of satellites" page. The list's job is to be a complete record, containing good information about each satellite. But also the outage wasn't a problem with the satellites at all, it was a failure in the ground segment. If the satellites are not updated regularly, they become useless, but they don't stop working.

The outage is a notable event for the system, it is mentioned in the Galileo system page. Thomasonline (talk) 14:32, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
