Splitting this article, restoration and rework

edit

Recently I restored this article after it was prematurely split into three. I have just done so again. WP:SIZERULE recommends that consideration be given to splitting articles once an article reaches 40-60kB of readable prose. Even using a very loose interpretation of the definition of readable prose, the amount of readable prose in List of Drop Dead Diva episodes is only 7.7kB, which is far below WP:SIZERULE's upper limit of the "Length alone does not justify division" category. Splitting is typically reserved for shows with several seasons, making the "List of" article overly long, and that just isn't the case here. There was no need for splitting when it was done originally and nothing has changed. Based on article growth I don't see a need to split for several seasons yet, unless substantial season specific content can be added to the season articles and that hadn't been done.

The split wasn't carried out properly. Rather than transcluding the season tables from the season articles, as specified at Template:Episode list#Sublists, the tables were partially duplicated, which is undesirable from both a reading and editing perspective because the episode tables in the season articles and the tables here can get out of sync. It makes far more sense to include everything in one page if the only substantial content is the episode tables. Cast and characters information can be included here if necessary, although that should be limited to seasonal cast changes, since the cast is already handled in the main article. There were several other issues with the split that didn't comply with the splitting requirements but the restored eliminates those.

I've also cleaned up the article quite a bit, correcting and reordering fields, formatting etc. I've changed the colours to something a little less "In your face" and I've removed ratings from tvbythenumbers.com and pifeedback.com. The former is a blog while the latter is an internet forum. Neither qualify as reliable sources. Yes, a lot of articles use them but they shouldn't. "They're used in other articles" is never a good argument to justify inclusion of something that breaches policy. --AussieLegend (talk) 19:11, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
