Red ink edit

Mr Beanie, why is it that you want red ink on the link and why do you think that's appropriate? Be specific, WP:LIST is a good place to start. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:30, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

They were still Canton Bulldogs players – not having a page doesn't mean they didn't play. And besides, just about every other team list article we have is like that. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:31, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
And do you have any policy saying that its not allowed? Because I've never seen it. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:32, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
We only allow red ink links to topic which are notable but currently lack pages, that doesn't seem to apply here as the red ink topic are non notable. In terms of lists we don't put things on lists which don't have pages, if this was just a page called "Canton Bulldogs players" we could have entries for them but we don't have that wiggle room on a list page. You do not know that they are non-notable. I've written articles for plenty of NFL players recently that were redlinks. And you still haven't shown me the policy. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:36, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
"Because the subject of many lists is broad, a person is typically included in a list of people only if both of the following requirements are met: The person meets the Wikipedia notability requirement. The person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources." WP:LISTPEOPLE. I note that you would have to fully demonstrate reliability in the case that a red ink figure is challenged, its not me who has to establish that they're non notable its the person who wants to include them who has to establish that they are notable (as will all things on wikipedia). Pro-Football-Reference and Pro Football Archives each verify that the people played for the Bulldogs – you really should attempt to get consensus at WT:NFL before moving in and removing players from their lists when its always been done this way. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:41, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
That establishes their membership, but that's not enough for inclusion. If "your" lists have always been done that way that's a WP:COMPETENCE issue. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:44, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Also, as Alvaldi noted at WT:NFL: Per WP:LISTN If the group or set is notable (i.e. the list in question), the individual items in the list do not need to be independently notable. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:45, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Except when those items are people and WP:LISTPEOPLE applies... Are the NLF players not people? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 16:46, 6 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
