Lexus

Is it worth mentioning that Lexus stands for...

Luxury

Export

X

United

States

Or is this just a myth?

R johnson 18:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

Currently there is a mention of that under "Lexus brand" Enigma3542002 00:24, 28 October 2006 (UTC) I think it is just a myth though, as the name Lexus was from the finalist Alexis, plus avoiding the Lexis database connection with 'luxury' as a basis.

I thought Lexus was simply thought of off the top of the head from a Toyota bigwig. Karrmann 23:51, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
Pretty much, in consultation with their marketing personnel. Upon further research, it is apparent that the "Luxury EXports to the United States" acroynm is simply a coincidence, given that it is contradicted by official sources. Enigma3542002 00:34, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

ORIGIN

"Lexus is originally a Korean car manufacturer"

.....I don't think so...

Korean car manufacturer created "Lexus". Toyota imitated it. And Japanese government concealed the fact. Korean car manufacturers have a great technological know-how. Japanese are great plagiarists. Corean2006 12:34, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

NPOV

I think the following sentence with certain portions highlighted nowhere near qualifies as neutral: "This has led some automotive thinkers to believe that unless Lexus prices its products head-to-head with the European premium brands and emphasizes its superior quality, reliability and engineering, it will not be able to succeed globally"

As far as I can tell, Lexus uses spaces in their model names (e.g., ES 330 instead of ES330). Their press room [1] indicates that this has been going back to at least 1995. [2] I'm not sure about models before that; but, it seems that there's recent consistency in their naming schemes.

I recommend aligning all Lexus references to what is fairly obviously a corporate standard. Any thoughts? --Milkmandan 21:59, 2005 Jan 30 (UTC)

Asked and answered. You're right, and it looks like we have a new standard to comply with! --SFoskett 00:37, Jan 31, 2005 (UTC)
OK, I've just gone through all the pages that link to Lexus or any of the individual Lexus model pages and have cleaned everything up. The vast majority (~60 pages) already used the proper notation, and I fixed roughly 20 others. This scan would miss anything that isn't linked to either of those sets of pages, though. --Milkmandan 01:54, 2005 Jan 31 (UTC)

At the end of the article, what does "F1" refer to? Formula One?

128.104.102.148 05:22, 21 July 2005 (UTC)

I Am an Automotive engineer & I dont agree with the statment of "Nothing compares to a lexus automobile" I think its a biased statement, what is the base for such statement???

Plural of Lexus

If anyone knows what it is officially, plese post it.

Personally, i like "Lexi" /leks-eye/, but i doubt that's correct.

Um, it's a brand name. How could something be "correct" when it's an invented word? I'd go with "Lexuses." Moncrief 17:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
I'd be inclined to go with Lexi as it's what Partridge suggests. DavidFarmbrough 10:03, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Were to take a cue from Latin, it would be Lexii

According to my sources, the plural of Lexus is Lexus. There is no separate plural form of the word. And I should point out that there are many invented words...perhaps Xerox as an exmaple. In Lexus official literature (press releases, brochures), they only use the word 'Lexus' and no derivations of it, and in plural form also 'Lexus' such as 'All Lexus vehicles," or something.
However, if you'd like to use a plural form, I think Lexuses or Lexii sound fine to me...maybe the commonplace usage may one day become part of the corporate lingo (FedEx anyone?). Enigma3542002 03:35, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

On the German discussion page, someone mailed Lexus and asked them. They said, since it's a brand name, the plural of Lexus is simply Lexus. --84.178.77.183 18:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Marque?

What is a "marque"? This article is extremely poorly-written. It sounds like it was written by someone for whom English is a second or maybe third language. Moncrief 17:02, 2 October 2005 (UTC)

Marque...noun, make of car, as distinct from a specific model (in French literally mark) from Oxhord Compact English Dictionary.

Stupid Comments

The automotive engineer should not be so picky over how someone decides to spell out a model name. As far as i can see there are no spaces and this is from lexus themselves. What else could F1 relate to in the automotive world? Bit of a dumb question to me. Someone that does not know what marque should use a dictionary before suggesting it is a poorly-written article because they are not educated enough to find out what it is.

I suggest you stop being confrontational as it doesn't help your argument. Guv2006 13:49, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

One of the finest three?

The statment that Lexus is one of the three finest automakers in the world is highly arbitary and opinionated. Maserati, Bentley, Cadillac or Lincoln owners might beg to differ. The statment was removed since it was POV and not encyclopedia material. Gerdbrendel 02:39, 12 November 2005 (UTC)

Year of Introduction?

I came over just to see when the Lexus was introduced. The answer is not obvious. Paul, in Saudi 11:54, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

It clearly says it was introduced in 1989 in the US and 1990 elsewhere (I assume the rest of the world, not just the UK and Australia). I definately saw them in Saudi by 1991 at the latest anyway (I lived there at the time ^_^) --Zilog Jones 21:24, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Neutrality

It says that Lexus focuses on luxury and BMW and Mercedes does not. This is favored toward Lexus, as is many comments in the service section of this article. Also note that Lexus is considered entry-level to mid-level luxury and BMW / Mercedes vehicles fall into the luxury segment. This article needs to be reviewed for neutrality immediately. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Americanfacts101 (talkcontribs) .

Where does it say that BMW and MB don't focus on luxury? Who says that Lexus is considered entry-level to mid-level? It depends on which model you are talking about (the same goes for BMW and Mercedes; Mercedese C-class vehicles are used as taxis in some parts of Europe). The article fairly notes that outside of North America, Lexus does not currently have as good a brand image as other luxury-oriented automakers. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:57, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

NPOV tag

I have added this tag because the article appears to need a thorough cleanup; right now it is severely pro-Lexus to the point of borderline advertising. (ESkog)(Talk) 02:44, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

NPOV tag

I think the tag should poof, the statement "It's one of the finest automakers in the world" is appropiately vague, and something nearly every highend automaker uses. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Movax (talkcontribs) 23:47, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

  • That is one of only several statements I have a problem with... there are problems with both blatant cheerleading and a lot of weasel words:
    • Lexus has proven itself a worthy competitor...
    • Lexus is now considered one of the finest automobile makers in the world.
    • Lexus maintains core values of luxury, service, value and superior reliability
    • [The LS 400] was widely praised for its silence
    • The waiting areas in the service departments are very comfortable.
    • The tools are kept neatly in drawers and racks and not scattered as is usual in service departments
  • I don't think any of these statements (and there are many others) should be in an encyclopedia article, and I am replacing the NPOV tag in hopes that someone more knowledgeable than I can source, reword, or delete these claims as appropriate. (ESkog)(Talk) 00:00, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Rewrite

Ok, I did a rewrite/reformat/copy edit of this article, in an attempt to remove the rather blatant pro-Lexus marketing language that most of the article consisted of. Note that I removed almost no information, just the glowing praise and POV wording.

I did, however, clean up some grammar/punctuation issues and fix or reformat some inefficient Wiki redirects and broken links, so even if you don't like what I've done, please add information back selectively instead of performing a wholesale revert.

Typical Import Nonsense

There is such bullshit being written on wikipedia about imports, particularly japanese, by little kids who know nothing of automobiles. So many of the pages have utter nonsense. Here's a Gem: "The Nissan VG engine can easily handle 1000hp" Relevance? Citation? I also found out that the Infiniti G20 is a tuner car, casue its easy to modify. Come on, get some sense. 192.197.71.189 17:47, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

What? Nothing you're mentioning seems to have anything to do with this page. Do you have any specific points about the Lexus article?
Fox1 (talk) 20:11, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

New organization

This article should be reorganized:

first, a history section

then, one on lexus today

then, a section on lexus cars

and then, links

i'll do it if no one does. thanks, Theonlyedge 02:56, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I agree this article needs reorganization, the most pressing issue of which is Lexus history vs. present (which IMO is somewhat blurry at present). Best, Enigma3542002.

Credit Card

"In the United States, Lexus Financial Savings Bank, in conjunction with US Bank, has launched a Lexus Pursuits Visa Card." Is this correct? usually this sort of thing is just an existing credit card company using the trademark and userbase of an existing brand to launch a new credit card portfolio. DavidFarmbrough 12:30, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

The card actually says "issued by Lexus Financial Savings Bank". It seems to be run by the same people who do the Lexus financing. *Dan T.* 20:50, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

anyone know what the logo means? trying to research car logos ;P

uh.. shot in the dark here, but I'm guessing that it's a "L".. which.. stands for... Lexus?

Pricing

just a comment on the pricing of Lexus cars. According the the article, Europeans don't much care for having luxury combined with "cut-rate pricing". If this reasoning is true, I find it ludicrous. All Lexus has to do is maybe add $5,000 worth of "luxury" to the cars and then jack the prices up $25,000 to $50,000 so the Europeans think they are getting something worthwhile. What a joke.

L.EX.U.S.

Luxury? I thought it was "Limited EXport to the United States" ...in line with an agreement between Japanese Auto-makers to limit the export of high performance vehicles????

In my mind "Lexus" was a model range, not a manufacturer: that's Toyota, or is Lexus really a "manufacturer"?

Lexus article (vandalism)

  • This article is written like an advertisement. like copy & paste from company brochures. this article may need a complete rewrite.
  • also, article is too long & heavy. This article page is 59 kilobytes long. It may be appropriate to split this article into smaller, more specific articles. See Wikipedia:Article size.
Your claims might be more credible if you did not VANDALIZE the article, by removing references and then replacing them with "unreferenced" tags. If you had bothered to read the article, you would find those claims referenced in the lead or body. Furthermore, this article has been thoroughly vetted and made NPOV, as confirmed by the GA review and multiple discussions elsewhere. Nothing here is 'copied and pasted' from company brochures; in fact the vast majority of the statements made in this article come from journalistic and scholarly publications. Furthermore, I and others rewrote this article in response to earlier criticisms of NPOV and unreferencing (see archive). These changes were amply discussed and debated, and I find your current assertions highly partisan and questionable. And although you copied and pasted the "appropriate to split" details regarding Wikipedia:Article size, if you bother to read the section not only is there no haste to split an article, but the SCOPE of an article such as this requires a medium length; other automotive makes have similar length articles or longer. Far from 'garbage' and 'promotion', the statements in this article are fact-based and referenced, and are intended to be an encyclopaedic corporate profile of a luxury division, as should be. Enigma3542002 14:27, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
this wikipedia is not your fan page. Pgdn001 17:01, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
and are you japanese? Pgdn001 17:04, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
The goal of this article is not to promote Japanese culture; references of Japan are made when they are directly relevant to the history of Lexus. You may notice in the above talk section that I have personally removed statements which seem nationalistic. Furthermore, it appears based on your contributions records that "Pgdn001" is the same as "Firefox001" and has used the URL 221.148.48.216, all focusing on topics related to Korea. Based on the history [3] of this user, there appears to be a troubling record of disruptions, racism, and unwanted editing behavior which does not comform to acceptable Wikipedia standards. Interestingly, these warnings have been removed from the current talk page, in possible violation of wikipedia rules. It is also possible that this user is responsible for the earlier vandalism to the Lexus article, which also was focused on nationalistic grounds. I hope that this record will change, but doing vandalism, followed by multiple changes under several disallowed pseudonyms, is not helpful. Please reconsider your actions, and consider this a friendly notice. Enigma3542002 17:24, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
DO NOT NEED PERSONAL ATTACK. You must Calm down. Japanese. Enigma3542002, are you stalker?(very typical japanese. LOL) first of all , we do not need your garbage article. if you want lexus fan site , then you make another lexus fan homepage, ok? japanese? Pgdn001 11:13, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Note: the above user has now been banned due to vandalism, sockpuppetry, and racist commentary: [4] Enigma3542002 20:08, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Lexus F-division logo.png

Image:Lexus F-division logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:03, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
