editThe principal origin of this name is generally agreed to be as a 'from [placename]' surname, in this case the English city of Leicester (pronounced 'Lester' and also spelt 'Leister', 'Leyster' 'Leycester' at al at various times). While there seems to be evidence of some instances of it being a misspelling of the Irish/Scottish 'Lister', to cite this as the sole source of the name seems bizarre.
