Talk:Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha

Leader of Opposition (Lok Sabha)

edit

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is not the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, he is the leader of INC in lok sabha. The post is vacant since 2014 has no party has 10% (55 seats) seats in Lok Sabha expect BJP. No official government website mention him as Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha. [[1]] [[2]] [[3]] Nitesh003(TALK) 06:48, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • "Chowdhury to stay as leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha". The Pioneer. 15 July 2021. Retrieved 18 January 2022.
You are using a site that says it was last updated in 2015. Check the recent secondary sources I have added into the article. Please read difference between Primary, secondary and tertiary sources. Venkat TL (talk) 07:48, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
When there is no leader of opposition since 2014 then why they would update and what they would update? Can you name a single party expect Bharatiya Janata Party which have more than 55 seats in the lower house. Do you know what is the criteria to become official opposition party in the Lok Sabha. Why you are making him Leader of opposition? Nitesh003(TALK) 11:48, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I am not making him anything. Just letting you know what Reliable secondary sources are saying. Venkat TL (talk) 11:51, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Just answere a simple question how he can become leader of opposition in LS if Indian National Congress doesn't have enough seats to make him Leader of opposition. Nitesh003(TALK) 12:00, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
The second link that you listed - https://www.india.gov.in/my-government/indian-parliament/adhir-ranjan-chowdhury is not reliable, because the profile page on the same portal for Narendra Modi also does not list anything in the field for "positions held" - https://www.india.gov.in/my-government/indian-parliament/narendra-modi . I am sure no one concludes he is not the Prime Minister based on this listing.
For Leader of Opposition, I found an official source confirming its existence in 2022 - https://eparlib.nic.in/bitstream/123456789/1047871/1/8933.pdf . The question mentions current issue because of remarks of "Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha" - this should be conclusive enough. Jogdand.rushikesh (talk) 04:18, 11 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Please read this news and understand. Hopefully you will get your answers. Venkat TL (talk) 12:55, 19 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

the leader of single largest opposition party i.e Leader of congress in LS. (Why not simply Leader of Opposition). Every party has their own leader in Lok Sabha. You can invite experts of this field for discussion. Show me single official/government website in which it is written that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha. regarding 2-1 voting in Appointments Committee of the Cabinet

edit

I want to add the following in the roles and responsibilities section. "A Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha has following responsibilities. However On the selection panels for most of these appointments except CBI where Chief Justice of India is a member of this 3 member committee which includes PM, LoP and CJI , the government has a 2-1 advantage, as it comprises the Prime Minister and a Union Minister. But the Leader of the Opposition, will have a say" this I believe is necessary as it highlights that Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha doesn't have some veto power. This also makes clear the role of LoP within the appointments committee like LoP can make suggestions but cannot overrule the will of the government.

I can quote more sources tell me if that's necessary.
