@Tajotep: Thank you for creating this article. Do you have any objection to moving the title to Upaupa Schneklud (The Player Schneklud), as that is the title used by the Baltimore Museum of Art? Looking further into this, the painting itself is known as Upaupa Schneklud, as Gauguin titled it in the top left-hand corner. Also, the painting was exhibited in 1988 at the National Gallery of Art and the Art Institute of Chicago, and in 1989 at the Grand Palais, under the title Upaupa Schneklud. Update: Not to worry. I have only just read Sensbach 2000 which clears up everything. Viriditas (talk) 08:31, 4 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Paul Gauguin painted Fritz Schneklud, a friend and professional musician, in 1894

This has now been refuted, as of Sensbach 2000. The person is Fréderic-Guillaume Schneklud, not Fritz, who is an altogether different subject. And it is not a self-portrait, but strangely, Schneklud looks a bit like Gauguin, as archival photos demonstrate. I hope to make the necessary changes tomorrow or the day after.
