2 missing races

edit

Two races I couldn't track down. LM won one race apart from the March Stakes between Royal Ascot and the St Leger in 1978. He also finished unplaced on his last race of 1979. Tigerboy1966  22:06, 27 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, Le Moss won the Tennent's Trophy at the Ayr July meeting: Mercer didn't ride him as he couldn't do the weight (same reason as Queen's Vase). Also the March Stakes (August) is two months + after Royal Ascot, not one month later. His last race of the season in 1979 was the Jockey Club Cup at Newmarket where he finished 5th to Nicholas Bill. Thanks. I pieced the article together from newspaper archives so there were some gaps. I now have the Timeform annuals for the relevant years so a rewrite is due. Tigerboy1966  05:52, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Other interesting bit about Le Moss is that McGrath or more correctly the Brownstown Stud sold their yearlings that year in matched pairs (or as matched as they thought). Whoever bid the highest price could take their choice from the pair (the other horse stayed with McGrath). Le Moss cost 26,000gns and was picked from the pair by The Newmarket Bloodstock Agency. The other yearling did not win a race. (Victor Middlesex (talk) 08:35, 19 July 2014 (UTC))Reply

and the next pair offered included El Badr who won the Prix du Cadran! Tigerboy1966  09:46, 19 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

The yearling which was paired with Le Moss was Kasmoun (by Kalamoun out of Pale Jasmine who was out of Feemoss and therefore a half sister to Le Moss). Unplaced at 2 and 3, he won 2 moderate races, one at 4 and one at 5 by which time he had been gelded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.45.53.160 (talk) 23:42, 20 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
