Not quite an article, not quite a disambig page edit

This isn't quite a disambig page since the main thing it should point to is an article that doesn't exist yet. Would it be better as a stub with some see also links? Or maybe it needs a needs-help tag. --Jake 18:30, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Poisson distribution, the use of that name for this distribution edit

I am a mathematical statistician of some standing in the profession, and nobody I know ever refers to the Poisson distribution as The Law of Small Numbers. I do understand that in a popular book on the phenomenon one can use Poisson to create all sorts of real-life examples, but in the end thinking that Poisson=LSN can only serve to engender more confusion. (I call it a phenomenon since it is not really a law, that is just a tongue-in-cheek reference to the very real Law of Large Numbers.) 2A01:CB0C:CD:D800:5DF1:F6E6:D63D:13E0 (talk) 06:33, 22 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
