- It's [la va LEER]. The original French name had an E on the end, indicating that the R is pronounced. The Americanized version retains the pronunciation. --Tysto (talk) 21:29, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
- The French version doesn't always have an ⟨e⟩ and actually indicates its pronunciation with the accent grave. The Americanized version would generally pronounce the r regardless. — LlywelynII 22:21, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
What do the French really mean by "une lavallière"? edit

According to Ascot tie and fr:Lavallière, they are not the same: what the French call "une lavallière" is a very large bow tie, with large loops and tails hanging down in front of the breast from a closed shirt collar, while "an Ascot tie", worn inside the open shirt collar, would in French be called "un foulard" — of the around-the-neck variety. — Tonymec (talk) 22:28, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
