Origin of the title

I am missing a sentence of the origin of the sitcoms title. What does is exactly mean? Which intention has the word "summer wine"? Background of my question: Some week ago, I have created the article de:Sommerwein, which links to "Last of the Summer Wine". I wondered, why en:wiki has no equivalent, and what summer wine intents in english language. Clausthal (talk) 11:51, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

It refers to people who have passed out of the "summer" of their working lives into the "autumn" of retirement, yet wish to enjoy themselves while they still can, prolonging the "summer". --Redrose64 (talk) 13:52, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
thats ok, then I have to ask the other way around: what does summer wine stands for? Is it "normal" wine or a special mix of drink like fruit juice etc? Where and when is this topic used? Is it a special phrase in wine buisiness or a common item in the supermarket? Please excuse me for asking so much! ;-)) Clausthal (talk) 16:00, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
The available explanation for the title is in the article.
I can only speculate on the meaning of the generic term "summer wine". Possibilities are:
  • wine from grapes harvested in the summer
  • wine bottled in the summer
  • wine so sensitive to warmer cellar temperatures that it must be consumed in the summer
In the context of the show, it seems to mean excellent wine that is running out, just like the lives of the characters. ~Amatulić (talk) 16:56, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the last answer. That is, what I am looking for! Clausthal (talk) 10:07, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Is there a reason why Sarah Thomas is not shown in the list of actors. She played the part of Glenda for years and it seems incredable that her name is not listed when others who have played much lesser roles are? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.146.153.182 (talk) 16:19, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Because she's not featured in the opening credits. The infobox lists only actors and actresses who have appeared in the opening credits of the show at some point. Redfarmer (talk) 12:59, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
