MOS:DAB "Linking to a primary topic" edit

The AFC Lamar Hunt Trophy is definitely more widely known than the other so it needs to be primary Hutcher (talk) 10:11, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

The primary topic guidelines of MOS:DAB refer to pages like school where typing "school" into the search box links directly to the school article but the school article links School (disambiguation) at the top of the article. That doesn't apply to this type of disambig page. In any case, the AFC trophy is listed first, so I don't think it's a big deal. Ryan2845 (talk) 19:32, 6 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
"Lamar Hunt Trophy" redirects here. For the Border War award, see the "Lamar Hunt Trophy" section of the "Border War (Kansas–Missouri rivalry)" article.
I'd argue that this talk page is the proper place for deciding to do that, but the essential point is being treated as a primary topic on a Dab page is not a matter of being, say, "definitely more widely known", but rather of directly or indirectly (i.e., via a Rdr) occupying the page with the un-suffixed title.

Misc. fixes edit

I mention only two important points (and omit even fixing some fine points that might distract from them):

  1. In the lead line of an equal-Dab'n Dab pg, the bolded occurrence of the pg title has the same meaning as, in this case
    The phrase "Lamar Hunt Trophy"
bcz it is that phrase, not the prize, that may refer to any of several topics.
    I removed the "The" from
    The Lamar Hunt Trophy
bcz its presence would mean asserting that the prize whose name is "The Lamar Hunt Trophy" refers to the topics, i.e. bears writing that mentions the respective games or the winning of them; perhaps true, but not to the point, which is to connect the title of the Dab to each topic by means of
mentioning the title of our page for the respective topic and
linking to the page for that topic.
(With a primary-topic-Dab'n Dab pg, the 1st-line bolded occurrence is followed by "is", implying equality, not reference, as in
The Lamar Hunt Trophy is the award for...
but the "...may refer to..." line still begins with use of the title as a phrase.)
  2. In articles, the MoS calls for frequent piping of lks, but MoSDab generally forbids piping (with using the piping to add quotation marks or italics being the main exception.
It's absurd to suppose that marking up a lk within the pg Border War (Kansas–Missouri rivalry) to look like one within the pg Border War is permissible bcz a section lk is involved, and i've also redone that piping.
