MOA
editI noticed on the Tampa TAC (terminal area chart) that Lake Placid is an MOA (Military Operational Area) from ground to 7,000 feet. Any ideas what this is used for? (chart VFRTATAMPORLAND). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.106.97.138 (talk) 15:22, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Some supporting linkage here: [1]
- The cited link mentions the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR), which is a large area (166 square miles) east and northeast of Avon Park and west of the Kissimmee River, bisected by the Polk/Highlands county line (map), that Air Force jets from Tampa's MacDill Air Force Base use to practice their bombing skills. Those jets sometimes approach the range at a low altitude from the Lake Placid direction, necessitating restricted air space there. — Joe Kress (talk) 23:57, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

Lake Placid Tower
editIt looks like it has enough info and references for its own article. Thoughts? --Ebyabe (talk) 23:55, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
- I support a separate article with a suitable summary here. — Joe Kress (talk) 17:44, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Noting that you split off the depot, which has much less content, I'll move the tower as soon as I write its summary. — Joe Kress (talk) 23:34, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
- Moved. — Joe Kress (talk) 15:09, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
