I am certain more details could be ascertained so that this article could be fleshed out. I was on a tour of Poplar Grove Plantation, northeast of Wilmington, NC in July of 2013. The tour guide said that US Route 17 in NC was the King's Highway in the 18th - 19 centuries. It was a plank road. This article could be expanded if a knowledgeable person could describe the Highway as it appeared in each of the colonies or states during the years of its existence. I live on Kings Highway in Maine, in Kennebunkport, so the road obviously ran farther north than Boston. Not sure how much farther north it goes.
