Actually, I'm not sure if the Kilwinning mill was a clothing mill or carpet mill, so if I made a mistake in that, feel free to correct it. Douglasnicol 20:19, 7 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Message for Riverbank-I like the additions you made to my rather poor entry, but I'm curious, are the pictures you added your own? I just ask because Wiki can be rather sensitive about copyright issues. By the way, I reinserted the Industry section, because although Kilwinning was never the industrial centre that other towns were, there was some Douglasnicol 19:20, 8 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've made some changes and identified where the Lodge section needs citation. I also added a link to an article I've been working on regarding the Lodge, which is still in skeleton form and needs more material.ALR 11:12, 18 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Recent vandalism edit

Have you seen the recent vandalism on Kilwinning page? Someone added childish nonsense, deleted it and then added more before deleting it again. Weird. Sad and weird. TheBourtreehillian 09:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Additional information edit

Nice article. Here are a few additional sites that I've visited and found interesting; they may useful out of personal interest, or for information to add to the article.

Ayrshire Roots (towns) - a genealogy site, but with much information on the towns (including Kilwinning).
Statistical Accounts - the Kilwinning Parish account mentions the town, of course, and reading the accounts gives a description of the area 200 and 150 years ago.
UK census from 1841 forward - Kilwinning Parish is complete for 1841 and 1851; pick a likely name of someone in the town itself, then select "next household" and "previous household" to walk your way down a street. A lot of cotton handloom weavers and coal miners, as well as others.
ayrshirehistory.org.uk site - many articles on various places and subjects. Two examples:
Miner's Rows in Kilwinning Parish - Ironworks Square is near the top of the page, Fergushill (just east of town) is near the bottom. Descriptions show how people lived.
article - includes some information on Eglinton Castle.
