15 or 15.5?

At one point in the article, kegs are pronounced 15 gal. Otherwise, they're referred to as 15.5. I assume the second is correct, since it's half of 31.

Opening Table Thing

I dislike the opening table of equivilent values. The conversions have WAY to many significant figures, and the superscripts and subscripts tend to run together. I'd like to ask about the table before changing this article though, as I like the comment about the space-keg and how you cited your source for that little factoid. Why doesn't this article explain how a keg works??

Alabama Keg Law

Changed this to reflect the fact that there are lots of states with keg laws, and the fact that alabama's proposed law failed. Also changed heading to "Keg Law Registration". Instead linked to another wikipedia article about keg registration laws. I touched that article up a little, but it still needs work that I can't really do right now due to wikipedia ignorance.

Keg Warning Label

Would the author be able to provide a picture of the warning label and what state requires the label?

I was the auther of that original post, and that is a good idea about the picture, but would it be considered too commercial? I am in no way affiliated with Anheuser-Busch, I just happened to think it was interesting how they had a warning lable on the keg cap. Picture is of what size keg?

It should be clarified what size keg is illustrated in the picture.

Weight of 15.5 Gallon keg? 145lbs or 170lbs?

The list notes that:

• Kegs usually weigh 145 lb.

but the table below says they weigh 170lbs. OSHA says 162lbs. And the Australian equivalent to OSHA (I'm guessing) says 62kg (~136lbs). I'm going with OSHA on this one, and deleting the 145lbs line and leaving the table as is.

Is This Vandalism Under "Games involving Kegs"?

The last sentences in the paragraph that begins with "Keg races" say the following:

• "But Joakim Noah is not allowed to participate in fear of mono or ugliness being spread. And Greg Paulus still isn't enough of a "big boy" to drink alcohol."

Purpose of the keg?

The article says, "The keg was introduced in the early 1960s to allow for more efficient cleaning and filling in breweries." I have added [citation needed], because I have always understood the purpose to be (as the Keg beer article says) to make for easier handling at the point of dispense. Any idiot can serve keg beer, whereas cask ale requires care and attention. Rodparkes 02:57, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Pony keg

I've also heard "pony keg" used for a keg-shaped container of 2¼ U.S. gallons, which is/was made by at least one manufacturer, a size equivalent to a case of 24 twelve fluid ounce cans (288 U.S. fl oz = 2¼ gal). It has been some time since I've seen one of them. That's considerably smaller than the quarter-barrel called a pony keg here, 3⁴⁄₉ times as large. It had another name, too: maybe Tapper, a trademark? Does that deserve mention here? Probably not, if it is just a minor historical oddity of a marketing ploy. Differences between a keg and a cask

This section is worded very clumsily, and I"m not sure what it's supposed to mean. Can somebody fix it?Harksaw (talk) 00:21, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Context

Given that Kegger redirects here, I think the article could use a litte more context. The fact is that kegs are typically only used in places like bars or restaurants where fairly large volumes of beer are served, and large parties, where beer is ofter considered a focal point of a party; hence "kegger". ce1984 (talk) 07:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

"most pubs in the UK"

The article states that "Today most pubs in the UK will serve both keg and cask beer.". This is simply not true. While in some areas a large proportion serve both, in a lot of areas it is very hard to find Cask Ale.robferrer (talk) 14:29, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

You're right. I wish it was true, but it sadly isn't. In Scotland, for instance, you'll be extremely lucky to find cask ales anywhere outside of the large cities, and even there those that do are very much in the minority. I've changed most to many.86.1.196.156 (talk) 00:37, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

wrong picture text

keg cutaway

The picture is German keg size (you can see the inscription "Dortmunder Krone" for a Dortmund brewery) so this is really a metric 50 litres keg - however the current article reads "15,5 gallon keg". Has it been marked like that for an intention? Guidod (talk) 12:35, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
