Horse breeds edit

Category:Horse breeds Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The articles below are about various horse and pony breeds, including extinct breeds, some color breeds, as well as several types of horses sometimes mistaken for breeds, plus some articles related to horse breeding and selective breeding. Most articles about types of horses, rather than breeds, should be categorized under Category:Types of horses.

the text above indicates the article is fine to go in horse breeds cat

But that is not the way we are using it. These redirects aren't even articles. We need the horse breeds to parallel existing breeds because otherwise it's near-impossible to maintain our list article without hours of painstaking review. The horse breeds parent cat is comprehensive, but we don't need the extinct ones in there, though some used to be. Montanabw(talk) 03:14, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
When i got there some extinct were in horse breeds and some weren't if that is not the itention then you should remove the horse breeds cat from all the extinct breeds. also perhaps you should reword the horse breeds cat to indicate that only extant breeds go in the main categoryNirame (talk) 10:22, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
It's a slow process. We had to take some time to determine if certain breeds were, in fact, extinct, fix the relevant articles, then recategorize. The redirects have only the extinct breed category, the ones still with dual cats either have not been updated, or have not been reviewed, or else some other drive by person felt the need to add more categories and we missed the edit. It's kind of a step by step process. Montanabw(talk) 20:43, 8 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Karacabey (horse)Karacabey horse – Unnecessary parentheses; the word "horse" is part of the name of the breed, not disambiguation. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:07, 13 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

This one wasn't prevented from moving by having a previous article of the same name that required an admin's OK. Also, it is apt to be totally non-controversial (if you and I agree, it's thus not apt to be controversial at WPEQ and therefore the tag is just apt to attract trolls). So I just moved it. Hope you don't object. I tossed the tag because that removes the nom from the pile. (If anyone gets mad at me for that, I'll take the heat). Montanabw(talk) 20:20, 13 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Karacabey Horse is a breed that originated in the Marmara region of Turkey, they have been extinct since 1979.

Origins

This was one of the first breeds that came from Turkey after it was established & were bred at the Karacabey stud. They were developed by crossing Turkish Arabian race horses (which tend to be larger & faster than other Arabians) with the native Anadolu pony. The result was a lovely breed possessing many of the fine Arabian traits that was versatile and had some jump in them.

Later as high quality show jumpers were imported into the area from France & Germany the Karacabey was all but forgotten for the more exotic breeds. Growing numbers of automobiles also contributed to the Government’s decision that the breed was no longer needed. All breeding operations were halted in 1980 and the remaining animals were sold at auction and crossbred until none were left.

Interestingly enough, not long after the breed vanished sporting animals came into vogue in a big way and the Turkish officials later regretted their bad decision.
