Sale of Penquins to Balsillie...

The sale is not "official" unless and until approved by the NHL.

Organization of article

Chronologically the Patent issue occurred prior to the Penguin bid. I know currently there is interest in the Penguin bid, but historically this will end up being a footnote- In 2006, Balsillie made a failed bid for ownership of the NHL Penguins franchise. Therefore should this article be reorganized chronologically. Clerks 19:31, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

Nashville Predators

Why is he in the category of Nashville Predators? Is it a category for all articles remotely related to the Predators? Or is it just for people who have played on the team? Anchoress 21:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Did you even bother reading the article?

trilateral commission

According to the members section of the wikipedia entry on the Trilateral Commission, it appears that Jim Balsillie is a member.

I'd consider that a noteworthy addition to his bio.

Philanthropic work

Balsillie also donated $600,000 to the Peterborough YMCA, in which, as stated in the article, is now called the Balsillie Family YMCA. I can not an article online to prove this however, but I know this as a member.

Statememt of resignation in the citations

The text next to the citation says Balsillie had to step down as CEO as if quoting the RIM press area it links to but that text does not appear on the RIM site and there is no reference to support it; he is still listed on the RIM site as co-CEO and the press release about the settlement at http://press.rim.com/release.jsp?id=2026 says only that he had to leave the board. Perhaps a more accurate statement belongs in the section marked Resignation that covers the 2007 instance. --217.146.112.220 (talk) 01:01, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Undue weight and suggested re-organization

I agree with the "Undue weight" tag posted by Resolute. At the moment there are 3 screenfuls on hockey, but the material on RIM is so brief that the word Blackberry is nowhere to be found.

I suggest the following revised plan for this article: 1. Research in Motion (RIM) - perhaps combine a summary of the current Research in Motion article with more information on Balsillie's own role (if someone can research this). 2. Legal problems of RIM - patent litigation and stock options 3. Attempted purchases of NHL hockey teams 4. Philanthropy - Perimiter Institute etc.

Probably a good start. Balsillie's antics in the NHL arena likely could fill an entire article itself, but it really needs to be pared down here. I might handle that, but I posted the tag as I really don't have the time to expand the other aspects of his life atm. Resolute 22:41, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I also think that suggestion is a good start. And I would suggest waiting until this Phoenix mess is cleared up and then re-write the whole NHL part. Since his Pittsburgh and Nashville bids didn't get very far, I think one sentence or small paragraph about each of them within the same section is adequate. The minute details are not very important, in my opinon. If the Phoenix bid also fails, then the three of them can all be lumped together into one section. If it is successful, then he would now be an NHL owner and his connection to that franchise would warrant its own section.Djob (talk) 09:11, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Rewrite Predator's Section

Hey, if I don't get a chance to get to it first, I thought I'd throw out that the Nashville Predator's section needs to be rewritten to be put into past tense. It is written as if that stuff is still going on. Pjwerner (talk) 19:58, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
