Jason Mraz

I removed the mention of Jason Mraz because it seems superfluous in an article about Jewel. I quote it here for convenience:

...the same establishment that famous pop singer Jason Mraz would frequently play at a few years down the road.

I'm sure a lot of people have played at Java Joe's but I don't think it is appropriate to list them here. Furthermore, calling someone famous is generally not very encylopedial, and how frequently is 'frequently'?Mumby 23:06, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

From Utah?

Should Jewel really be in the Category:People from Utah? She was born there, but the article states she spent most of her life in Alaska. Shouldn't she be listed in Category:People from Alaska instead? — Frecklefoot | Talk 14:40, Apr 7, 2005 (UTC)

Having read Jewels books, she does refer to her family as mormon, but never mentions having spent much time in Utah. v She talks much more about living in MI, CA, TX, AK, but never Utah.Tallrichard2 19:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

This is a case where the subject of this Article could be in two Categories by City or Town: People from Payson, Utah (place of birth) and People from Homer, Alaska (primary residence), as well as two Categories by State: People from Utah and People from Alaska (same respective reasons). If memory serves me correctly, the body of Wikipedians is still out as to whether Kilcher should be in the People from California category (after all, Atlantic originally signed her in the San Diego area). Incidentally, Atlantic dropping Kilcher recently is a duplicate situation to what Deborah Gibson faced when Body Mind Soul failed to sell back in 1994. - B.C.Schmerker 16:19, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

Which aspects in particular?

From sources I've seen, there is little verifiable infdo on her day to day life. She is married to Ty Murray, Lives in Stephenville, TX, and was on Nashville Star. anything beyond that is likely rumour or tabloid, unless you have facts and sourcesTallrichard2 19:59, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

ummm.....Jewel is not married. She has been with her boyfriend, Ty Murray, for 10 years, but I know for a fact they're not married. Just thought I should let you know!

The move again

In retrospect, the move to Jewel Kilcher seems like a pretty terrible idea. When you say Jewel (singer), I know exactly who you mean. When you say Jewel Kilcher, I (and anyone else who isn't a diehard fan) thinks, "who's that?" Isn't that a good enough reason to move it back to the original title? I agree. Probably about 99.9% of her fans have no idea what her last name is. Since she is most widely known simply as "Jewel" and is a singer, it should be moved back to its original location. — Frecklefoot | Talk 20:38, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Country music?

I haven't been able to find out, is Jewel country now? Her video is at CMT.com and playing on the channel but I haven't heard her song on country radio. If she is, we should add country to her list of genres at the top of the page. --Chuckos 16:41, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

Hard to say. Some of her songs were in a sort of country style, like "Love Me But Leave Me Alone", but I'd be hard pressed to label her a country artist unless she's done tracks I don't know about. Deco 20:03, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

She has a range of musical genres, from country, to dance, pop, rock, and possibly a few others. to put her into any one category, other than just a very broad pop-music category would be somewhat innaccurate

Music

Under the music portion, it says she cut her first album in 1995 at nineteen, yet it's only 2006 now and her age is 32. Did someone forget to do the math?

It's still bad writing. Don't mix the age and date like that. Say, she cut the album in 1993 and released it in 1995. Or whatever...

Acclaim for 'This Way'

Is 'This Way' really

...her most critically acclaimed album to date...

Yeah, It was. After the meda blitz for Pieces of You & Spirit died down, she took a 2 year break, and everyone was anticipating her 3rd album. Highly anticipated and critically acclaimed are not the same thing though. I would be happy to agree with you if you can provide references. I know. But what i'm saying is the anticipation led to being critically acclaimed. I've seen it on a couple of sites and interviews dealing with Jewel. When I come across some refrences, Ill post them here.

Some much needed clean up

This article is getting a bit messy in my humble opinion. The most obvious problem is that we have a list and description of all the singles, then under that we have a table of all the singles, under that we have a list of all the singles with their billboard chart position, and under that we have a list of singles with their dance chart position. To make it worse, many of these singles have their own wikipedia page anyway! I suggest we remove the subsection Career->Singles since all the information in that could be put into the singles own wikipedia pages. Also, the sections ==Top 40 Radio== and ==Dance/Electronic Top 40== should be removed and the information put into the table called singles under ==discography==. I don't mind doing this, but I wanted to discuss it here first, any thoughts? Mumby 11:13, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Can we get a better looking picture of Jewel?

As you can see the external links have been cleaned up recently in order to meet the guidlines at wikipedia: external links. The problematic one has been the fansite forum, I don't think it belongs in the article because some parts of it can only be accessed by registered members; a quick glance through will show that people upload things to it that may breach copyright; and finally it brings absolutely nothing useful to this wikipedia page. Under 'links to be avoided' the Manual of Style says:

Links to sites that require payment or registration to view the relevant content.

and

Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace), discussion forums or USENET.

So that is why I don't think it should be on the list.Mumby 08:56, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Complete mess

This an entire article is an absolute disaster. I recommend it be completely re-written as it has numerous run-on sentences, little to no information on her personal life, her career section is completely wrote out like a book, very encyclopedic. Also her singles & CDs and their charts are devouring the majority of the page content. I also suggest that that the section about the charts be merged to the appropriate articles (or to her discography page) and that some things such as Film and Theater be moved to a single section. It is no secret that the Television section is way too lengthy and needs to be more organized into probably a paragraph or even a table, rather than just bullets. The writing section contains no sources to even prove that she has written those books. And the book section also probably needs a picture of at least one of her books and a little more information about her books, and the red-links removed. (I'm sure the books aren't worth their own separate articles, so at least make the section more fitting) The Philanthropy sections has too many red-links as well. Plus if her tours were actually "Major tours" why aren't there articles about them? Or if the tours were not that major enough to deserve their own articles, you could at least write a few sentences in the section (ie: start date/end date, number of legs, openers, ect). Plus her "Awards and nominations" section is barely organized and could probably use a color-code (red/green) table. I agree that the article really does need some clean up, but why don't you do it? That's the point of wikipedia right? I guess your answer would probably be "I don't have the time", that is probably the reason nobody else has done it yet! So long as well do a bit now and again it should soon be a much better article. I found some thirty-something sources, cut out stuff mentioned in other articles already linked to, and organized the tv-work section, as well as mering the already small theater and film together. All that's left is the tour and awards sections. -24.92.43.153 10:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Everyday Angels (EDAs)

At least ten years ago, there was a group of her fans who called ourselves the EDAs, often referenced in articles then, using a mailing list at smoe.org. It's all still archived. Is this something that deserves mention here, as Lenadra was fairly involved in keeping in touch with the group on a regular basis, and the group was significantly responsible for her Living Room Tours. Definitely... Also, there is an organization called the Everyday Angels Foundation which promotes volunteerism. I don't know if it's still active - it appears from the web site perhaps to be somewhat dormant. Jewel gave permission to use the name and it supports the spirit of her ideals.

MTV incident

During a taping of MTV's "Total Request Live" one day, Jewel and her boyfriend (rodeo champion Ty Murray) ventured into a photo booth on the set. Jewel lifted her shirt and bra, and Murray nuzzled on one of her breasts.
