Appearances

I think both of them appear in one of the Bill and Ted movies, don't they? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.56.20.87 (talk) 06:46, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

Silent Bob being called "Robert Blutarsky" was a joke in one episode of the (non-canon, non-continuity) "Clerks" cartoon series, and was a reference to the end of ANIMAL HOUSE where John Belushi's character, Bluto, is said to have done the same thing ("...became Senator Robert Blutarsky") and there is absolutely no mention ANYWHERE of Jay being Jason Derris. On the back of the 1998 action figures, he is called Jason Phat Buds. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.128.72.165 (talk) 00:17, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Silent Bob

What's the name of the actor who plays Silent Bob? It needs to be included in the page.

Antonio Curious Martin

It is - Kevin Smith plays him. Adam Bishop 00:09, 25 Sep 2003 (UTC)
Drawing Flies (in this film, Jason Mewes plays a character named "Az")

Shouldn't this be on the page on Jason Mewes rather than on this page, since he's not playing Jay in this one? Robert Happelberg 22:04, 18 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I belive there where two more msuic videos featuring Jay and Silent Bob, Kick Some ass By stroke9 and There was one done for clerks that I cant remember the song to go with.

I think the one for Clerks was "Can't even tell" by Soul Asylum. --TheMidnighters 11:02, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

they should of aded some of their cooler mowies like orgasmo ...!snoogens!...

..I don't remember Bartelby saying "Schuler Bob!"..

Well he does. And they discuss it on the commentary track. --TM 12:38, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
You have to listen very carefully ( and it helps to have the subtitles on ) when Bob throws him from the train. DemonWeb 15:02, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Cleanup tag added

I tried to do it on my own, but this article is a mess. The writing isn't up to encyclopedia standards (things are written in odd tenses with information that isn't vital) and the organization of the sections is pointless. It really needs a rewrite. Pele Merengue 20:06, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

I've been working on this article for days, but it is still littered with bad sentences and superfluous information. It was obviously first penned by a fan. For a while it even contained false information and quotes from deleted scenes presented as quotes from the films. I'll continue to clean it up a bit at a time. SSantoro 23:58, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

removed all "Silent Bob Speaks" sections. -Markeer 15:22, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
I reverted your removal of the "Silent Bob Speaks" sections. While I agree that the current format of the article is awkward, I do not believe that all of the Silent Bob quotes are superfluous. Silent Bob's quotes are an important part of his character; indeed, his general silence with occasional lines seems to be the character's essence. Consider, for example, the insight one gains into Silent Bob's by the inclusion the (admittedly lengthy) Chasing Amy quote. Given this, I believe removing them lessens the quality of the article. That being said, however, there is probably a better way to incorporate the quotes into the articles. This should be dealt with, and I will try to work on it in the near future. However, in the interim, I believe the quotes should remain as is.
Also, in reference to the claim that the Chasing Amy quotes are uncited. This is true, but only because I did not take them from a secondary source. I transcribed the quotes verbatim from my copy of Chasing Amy (this took a long time, as you can imagine). As such, I did not feel a citations was necessary. Sixtus LXVI 21:50, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry. I intially forgot to sign the above. Anyway, after looking at the article after the revision, I realized that, though important, the "Silent Bob Speaks" sections really do detract from the page as a whole. So, I've deleted them, with the exception of the Chasing Amy quotes. Now, this isn't just because I was the one who added them (or at least corrected them). I legitimately believe, as I previously explained, that the Chasing Amy quotes provide an essential look into the life of the character. In order to make it look nicer, I've paired the quote down somewhat (removing the banter with Jay) and merged it into the Chasing Amy section of the article. Tell me what you think. Sixtus LXVI 21:50, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
I'd say the movie sections look cleaner without the quotes, yeah, glad you agree. It's not that I don't believe the quotes add any insight to the characters, but they tend to be lengthy by encyclopedia standards and theoretically would be spoilers for those who have not seen the movies yet. I'd say the next step of cleanup is to balance out the weight of description given to each movie (although I grant that Strikes Back will always be longer, as it's the only film in which J&SB are in basically every scene). -Markeer 12:59, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
Did some clean-up, and will try to do more. I made a major change, in that I arranged the works by medium, and then ordered them by release date. It seems to flow better this way. Sixtus LXVI 18:42, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Clerks 2

The clerks 2 quote is for the most part wrong. I know he says proceedings not conversation, and he says "you've got one answer for everything man, pussy" or something similar. I'm trying to find the exact wording of it but have come up with nothing so far.

Animals section

I added a section showcasing the animal references made in allt he films, but for soem reason, it's moving the Appearancews section to a heading under the an8iamls section, instead of seperating them. If anyone can fix this, please do.

I fixed it. Its because you labeled it =Animals= as opposed to ==Animals==. Sixtus LXVI 01:36, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

The Qoute is "Well what the hell do you add to the conversation? You have one answer for everything, pussy man."

Comics

I know they have appeared in much more than just the one graphic novel. I'm not sure what they all are but this section definately needs expanding.--Torourkeus 00:58, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

There was also a crappy live clerks tv show for a time that isn't mentioned. --Torourkeus 01:00, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Dogma

An anonymous user keeps adding the following sentence to the Sexuality section: "However Dogma is not part of the main askewniverse as per multiple people in JASBSB having watched Dogma."

I really fail to understand how Dogma isn't canonical. It is referenced in both Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (When Jay, talking about Morris Day and Time, says "Handed down by the Lord Herself . . ." and the appearance of Alanis Morrisette as God after the credits) and Clerks II (When Rosario Dawson's character yells from the roof, Jay responds with "Lord?").

Now as to multiple people in JASBSB having watched it, I honestly cannot remember this taking place. Maybe my memory is shoddy, however, I DO remember Alyssa Jones mentioning that the Bluntman and Chronic Movie is better than Mallrats. Does this mean that Mallrats isn't canonical?

I don't want to get into an edit war over this, which is why I am seeking an explanation from the anonymous editor, or any third party in the know. Cheers! "Country" Bushrod Washington 00:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Um, sorry if this is way too late or if it's already been covered (this is my first Wikipedia post), but I remembered this while reading this post and pulled it off the quotes on IMdb:

  • Matt Damon: Hey shove it, Bounce-boy. Let's remember who talked who into doing this shit in the first place. Talking me into Dogma was one thing, but this..._LATER_... Ben Affleck: You're like a child. What've I been telling you? You gotta do the safe picture. Then you can do the art picture. But then sometimes you gotta do the payback picture because your friend says you owe him.

[They both take a beat and look at the camera]

  • So they do reference Dogma, butttttt it happens all the time in this movie. JASBSB requires a huge suspension of disbelief at points - they're just funny little gags, nothing meant to throw the movie out of the Askewniverse canon. This post went on way too long, soooo I'm out. Hopefully that helps. Cheers! Mitchell 22:47, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, Kevin Smith's movies tend to be self-referential anyway with regular breaking of the 4th wall. Besides, I think that in Chasing Amy the Jay and Silent Bob leave the diner and board a bus on their way to Bethany's clinic (or is that in a comic book? Uch -- stupid brain cells I had back in university being replaced by new ones). 192.245.194.253 19:11, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Them referenceing Dogma in JASBSB is just like them referenceing JASBSB in Clerks 2. Near the end of the movie Dante and Randall are in jail trying to figure out how to come up with money to buy the quickstop. Jay says him and silent bob will give them the money. Then they ask where the got the money and Jay says something like "dont you remember the made a movie about me and silent bob". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.89.39.15 (talk) 06:18, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

JASBSB

It might just be me... but the entry here is longer than the main article's plot summary. Any problems switching the two? The main article's plot summary is short and informative enough.

Possible Superhuman Abilities

Added a section speculating on Silent Bob's possible "superpowers," which I just noticed recently while thinking about Kevin Smith's films. I don't think that I've missed any, but any other Smith fan is, of course, welcome to comment and expand on this section.

I beleive this section be deleted as it is all individual research and is based on speculation--Aaronpark 22:06, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

"Possible Superhuman Abilities

While the other human characters in the View Askewniverse (this excludes angels, demons, deities, etc.) are realistic, Silent Bob has demonstrated throughout these films evidence of possible superhuman abilities, inspired by Smith's well-known love of superhero comic books and Star Wars

Silent Bob seems to have a toon-like ability to store several items of varying size in his trench coat (ranging from a Batman-like utility belt to a blow-up doll, as seen in Mallrats) as well as storage of at least one item (his boom box) always just off-screen (as in both Clerks films).

In Mallrats, Bob rushes past mall security guards who are in pursuit of Jay. His running is accompanied by a "whoosh" sound-effect, implying super-speed. However, as it is clearly seen that the guards are jogging while Bob is running at a full sprint, this is highly-debatable as a superhuman ability, and it is much more likely that the sound-effect was added strictly for comedic effect.

In Dogma, Bob destroys the demon Azreal with a golf club. While the characters agree that it must be because the club was blessed by Cardinal Glick, Jay is eager to point out that Silent Bob himself may be an "instrument of God."

Most impressively, Silent Bob has twice successfully pulled off Jedi-like telekinesis. This is seen in Mallrats with the Shannon Hamilton video tape, and then in Strike Back with the "Bongsaber" while engaged in battle with Cockknocker. Silent Bob has not demonstrated any other known Jedi-like abilities. It should be noted that in Mallrats the pole below where the tape rested was shaken, possibly causing it to jump and allowing Silent Bob to grab it." if someone would like to re-add this it is here --Aaronpark 00:27, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Degrassi

Does anyone know if Jay & Silent Bob Do Degrassi fits into the Askewniverse canon? If so should there be more mentioned about it? I just happen to run into the dvd, I didn't know it even existed. Just wondering if anyone had an idea about it.

  • It doesn't, especially since it hasn't been mentioned elsewhere in the Askewniverse. --DodgerOfZion 23:11, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Jay is cool with incest

In "Clerks" Jay clearly says to Silent Bob "...I don't care if she is my cousin, I'm gonna knock those boots again tonight." I couldn't believe I actually heard him say that, so I checked the published script, and sure enough, this is what he says. So among Jay's other endearing qualities, perhaps we should mention he sleeps with his cousin.ROG 19 19:34, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
