I plan to review this article, good luck to both of us. This might take some time but would definitely be timely. :) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 09:58, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'll address your concerns. Goodluck to us both. Best, Reading Beans (talk) 14:10, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

1—Well-written

edit
1a—prose
edit

Prose is okay, although I had to fix some grammar errors like Chants and poetry were sang during rituals, child birth ceremonies. → Chants and poetry were sung during rituals and childbirth ceremonies., These chants—although sometimes rare—were accompanied by horn players. → These chants, although sometimes rare, were accompanied by horn players. and so on.

I have no problem with fixing the grammar errors I find.

1b—MOS
edit
  • Lead: Lead is okay per WP:LEAD and WP:LEADLENGTH. It also summarises the article and I am satisfied with it.
  • Layout: Layout is fair
  • Words to watch: There are few flowery/weasel words and I will remove them as I keep going. Words in sentences like These oral types of storytelling may be simply recited by individuals or by groups of persons, or they may be accompanied by singing and musical accompaniments, thus transgressing the theoretical definition of literature and music. notice the thus transgressing the theoretical definition of literature and music which is not suitable and needed per WP:FLOWERY and WP:Words to watch.

2—Verifiable with no original research

edit
2a—reference section
edit

This is okay. The article contains a list of all references, presented in accordance with the layout style guideline.

2b—reliable sources
edit

Sources are mostly journals and books which are reliable. No issues with the reliability of the sources at all.

2c—OR
edit

No original research detected.

2d—copyvio and plagiarism
edit

No copyright violation and plagiarism, not from the recommended tools, not from my personal review.

3—Broad in its coverage

edit
3a—major aspects
edit

The article current covers the main aspects of the topic. Although, the Notable Igbo writers section can still accommodate more Igbo writers that I know of and are currently not listed there. It could be expanded later, afterall, this is not a featured article and The "broad in its coverage" criterion is significantly weaker than the "comprehensiveness" required of featured articles.

3b—focused
edit

If focuses greatly, there was no deviation and no unnecessary details.

4—NPOV

edit

This article represent all other views fairly, proportionately, and without bias.

5—Stable

edit

Article is stable and free from edit wars.

6a and b—appropriate use of images with suitable captions

edit

There is one image on the article and I have no problems with that at all. Since it better to have one appropriate one than many inappropriate ones. Per WP:RGA, "images are encouraged but not required."

Caption on the image is suitable per MOS:CAPSUCCINCT, and the image is in the public domain.

7—Overall

edit
Pass/Fail:
Very cool article and I'm happy to quick pass as a GA. If you want to improve the article further, please work on expanding the notable writers section and use the ones I mentioned below as a clue of what I am trying to say

@Reading Beans: There are notable Igbo writers that are currently not mentioned at all on the article, people like Buchi Emecheta, Cyprian Ekwensi, Flora Nwapa, etc. Please if possible, mention them and their works. Thanks! Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:21, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Also, George Basden, the Christian missionary, who made significant contributions to early Igbo literature with his work Among the Ibos of Nigeria Published in 1921, and Chukwuemeka Ike who published Toads for Supper and Sunset at Dawn. These are significant contributors who you could mention on the article generally. Although I have passed it coverage since I am satisfied with it. Just for the records.
