  • Any claim of copyright is a misunderstanding of the boilerplate on the LDS.ORG web site, which is intended to refer to the musical transcription itself, not to the music and lyrics. The hymn, with music by Excell and lyrics by Talbot, was probably written in 1899, was registered for copyright in 1900, and was publised in Excell's Praises as hymn number 137 in 1905. The hymn was anthologized at least three more times before 1923, clearly placing it entirely into the public domain in the United States in the modern era.  – Zigamorph (talk) 05:24, 9 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
It looks like you are correct. Works published in the united states before 1923 are in the public domain.
I'm going to remove the text from your reference, the link is all that is needed. You shouldn't copy and paste here text from other web sites. – jaksmata 15:26, 11 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Information on different pages conflicts.

edit

The 'Parodies' section states that the Vaselines recorded a parody in 1987, renamed the parody 'shortly thereafter', and that Nirvana recorded and released the renamed version in 1993. The page for the parody version however (linked to in the Parodies section on this page), states that it was Nirvana who did the renaming, for their 1993 recording.

I haven't edited anything, as I don't know which of the pages is correct.Adagio67 (talk) 09:41, 12 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
