Name edit

I'm a bit confused as to why this species cant have its common name mentioned but every other species of rat and mouse seems to have articles titled with their common name. I don't have too much of a problem with the page being moved but can we keep the common name in the article. I got this name from the list of most wanted articles and it has 619 pages linked to it. Most people aren't familiar with the latin names of animals so it may make this page harder to find and possibly confusing for the average reader. Sarahj2107 (talk) 13:20, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Those links appear to be mostly from a single template, which I just changed. The consensus in discussions at the rodent WikiProject has been to use common names only when they are, in fact, common, and I could not find a single reference in post-1913 sources for this animal's supposedly common name. If there is indeed a recent reliable source that use the name "Small-footed Forest Mouse", I'd have no problem with including it.
Very few people will have heard of this animal at all, and those who have are more likely to know the name Hylomyscus endorobae, which is used in all sources that cover it. I know I'd have no idea what kind of muroid the "Small-footed Forest Mouse" would be. For that matter, it doesn't appear as if endorobae really has relatively smaller feet than other species in the H. denniae group. Ucucha (talk) 14:37, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
