Masturbation belief

I wonder if it should be mentioned that there was a commonly held belief in the late 19th century that schizophrenia was caused by frequent masturbation and this was challenged by Kraepelin " Onanism in particular, which is very common in our patients, is usually held to be the source of the disease,so that cases of this kind were formerly spoke of as the insanity of Onanism.I am nevertheless inclined to see in Onanism a symptom , rather than a cause for the disease" (Emil Kraepelin - lectures on clinical psychiatry (1894)) ; given that this may have formed the basis of later nazi practice on sterilisation . When was it coined at the top of the article it states; The word schizophrenia was coined by Eugen Bleuler in 1911. A Modern Phenomenon

It is quite naive to insinuate that schizophrenia "may be a modern phenomenon". Because there is a lack of historical records does not mean that it did not exist. That is almost like saying "If it happened before I was born then it did not happen at all." Would like to add that in ancient times people with mental illness may have been those who society believed were possessed by a demon. For example Jesus is described as having exorcised people who the community thought were possessed. In this case the bible might be an actual record of some mental illness, perhaps even schizophrenia.

I do not understand how an article on schizophrenia that includes discussion of antipsychiatry can completely omit and mention of even the name of Thomas Szasz, M.D. as to whom there is extensive coverage elsewhere.
