Merge

This article as of this date is still not complete, but already exhibits size dimensions that preclude its merging into the proposed merge page. Wikipedia recommendations for large sections, such as historical sections, of a given page be broken off into separate "History of ..." articles, which is exactly the approach and technique method used and employed by the contributor of historical information for Grant county Kansas who created this page. Thanks, it is probably less than half done, size and content wise. We may have a lull in more input, as we are in the process of nailing down legal considerations, copyright issues, etc. Essentially all the information, text and images, comes from basically two publications that are originally produced by the Grant County Museum, The Historic Adobe House, The Grant County Historical Society, or Grant County History Commission, what ever name they might be going by at the moment; hence the excessive citations to only a one or a couple of sources, these books are "one of a kind". There has to be a way to properly cite said sources, without "run away" footnotes. I am sure the legal issues associated with using the material can be resolved, but it may take some time to determine the exact correct way to cover everthing. Any examples of legal permissions granted by museums you may be aware of would be appreciated. K0dpw (talk) 01:26, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

All photos, books, documents prior to 1923 can be used, because no longer under copyright law. See http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm That is why you see a lot of historical books available as ebooks today. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 09:57, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

Encyclopedia

It is in the style of the source book, which was not strict encycopedia format, kind of a mixture between that and prose. Much of the information just came out of people's heads who knew what they were talking about from first hand expericences and their own historical research and familiarity with the community, but did not work from a published source. It is the responsiblity of everyone that posts to wikipedia to not include things word-for-word, especially large amounts of text. You should always rewrite or update anything that doesn't "sound" like an encyclopedia. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 09:57, 6 March 2012 (UTC)

This article needs more reference sources, especially links to online materials, such as: Kansas Historical Society website (http://www.kshs.org/), Internet Archive (http://www.archive.org/), online digitized historical books (google, archive.org, ...), and other sites. If you don't find something on the internet today, then check every few months, because lots of old historical books are being digitized. While these sources are considered authentic, the main one was written documenting much history that came from contributing authors "heads", without footnote style credits, so it is impossible to trace a lot of statements made back further than this book. K0dpw (talk) 01:26, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
