Sarav avatar of Lord Shiva had calmed down Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu. Sarav avatar is a half lion and half bird and is also more huge than Narasimha avatar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2409:4060:2D87:A103:0:0:5ECA:3301 (talk) 19:07, 8 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Jaya and Vijaya

edit

The third avatara of Jaya and Vijaya is Shishupala and Dantavakra and not Kamsa. Comments?

You are quite right - I have changed it from Kamsa to Dantavakra. Ys, Gouranga(UK) 08:49, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Redirect Jaya-Vijaya

edit

The article Jaya-Vijaya (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) largely duplicates the superior text at Hiranyakashipu (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views). I propose that the text of Jaya-Vijaya be blanked and the article turned into a redirect to this article. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 04:09, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose Jaya-Vijaya are different entities in Hindu mythology. Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha is just one of the births of Jaya-Vijaya on the earth. There are others. See Jaya-Vijaya for details. Also, Jaya-Vijaya are traditionally portrayed as door-keepers in Vishnu temples. --Redtigerxyz Talk 05:26, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
You have every right to oppose the proposal, but one opinion doesn't form consensus. Please honor the process documented at WP:MM, and allow sufficient time for other opinions to be heard. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 13:11, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

(edit conflict) Ok. I will wait, but please answer the following questions:

  • Why should Jaya-Vijaya be redirected to Hiranyakashipu, why not Hiranyaksha, Kumbhakarna, Ravana or Shishupala, who are also births of Jaya-Vijaya?
  • How does "Caitanya Caritamrta" and "Door-keepers of Vishnu temples" be relevant (not be WP:UNDUE) in Hiranyakashipu?
  • Mani, Vettam (1975). Puranic Encyclopaedia: A Comprehensive Dictionary With Special Reference to the Epic and Puranic Literature. Delhi: Motilal Banarsidass. ISBN 0842-60822-2. has two entries for the two articles p. 352 (Jaya-Vijaya) and p. 314 (Hiranyakashipu). Explain.

Notified Hindu notice board. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:29, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've gone ahead and fixed it as I saw fit — following ⌘macwhiz's comments about the "superior text" that was here, I have put that text (more or less) in the Jaya-Vijaya article. I no longer see any significant duplication between the articles, nor (as before) any reason to merge them. Shreevatsa (talk) 18:43, 13 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Removed notice of merge as consensus seems to be established and Shreevatsa's contributions have more or less addressed Macwhiz's comments. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:29, 14 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

§ Holi had this as the second paragraph:

In some versions it is said that when Holika it says that Brahma cannot upset his boon. Bramha appears there and says for consciousness evil can be destroyed by any means as Trimurti is the highest.

This is so garbled it makes no sense at all, and I have deleted it. If somebody knows what it was meant to refer to and can rewrite it as coherent English, please do so. --Thnidu (talk) 02:49, 15 July 2015 (UTC)Reply
