I removed[1] claims, made by User:Francis Flinch, that the MK 556 "(...) shares many features with the CAR 816". The user based that claim on this source, reverted my edit [2] and stated "CAR816 mentioned in that ref". True, it is mentioned in that ref - but there is no statement in that ref that links Mk 556 features to the CAR 816. The relevant sentence in the source is:

• "(...) The latter (the EDGE Group) produces Caracal’s CAR 816 assault rifle, which has its roots in the HK416, as some of H&K’s and Sig Sauer’s engineers were hired by the UAE conglomerate to design the new product. CAR 816 has already been selected by India and South Korea, among others. The recent success is marking the rifle’s entry into NATO’s demanding market landscape and can open up new opportunities for EDGE Group and C.G. Haenel.”"

That doesnt fix it. Remember, you want to state, that the Mk 556 "shares many features with the CAR 816":

1. all4shooters a 2014 source about the CR 223 - makes connection to CAR 816 design and says "The overall design is based on the CAR-816"

2. is the same I mentioned initially - no CAR 816 to Mk 556 design connection in that source

3. Hanel CR 223 official website - no CAR 816, no Mk 556 mentioned (?)

4. MDR: CR 223 for Saxony´s police - neither CAR 816 nor MK 556 are named in the source. No connection between design of the CR223 and the "unnamed" trials rifle (Mk 556) mentioned at the end.

Did you interpret the "the (CR 223) design is based on the CAR 816" from the 2014 source into "(the Mk556) shares many features with the CAR 816"? A thing can share no features with another thing, that it is "based on". The english Wikipedia is liberal - but not that liberal. Alexpl (talk) 15:03, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Hope this helps: The MK 556 shares many features with the CAR 816 assault rifle, manufactured under licence by C. G. Haenel on behalf of its parent company, Caracal International and the Haenel CG 223 semi-automatic rifle. That Haenel does not mention the CAR816 lineage is not surprising. Haenel Defence needs the approval of German politicians to sell rifles to the Bundeswehr. The CAR816 article learns that the engineers behind the HK416 went from Heckler & Koch to SIG Sauer to Caracal tweaking the basic design.--Francis Flinch (talk) 15:38, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Where do you get the "shared features" from? You cant self interpret. Since the CAR 816 itself is a copy of the HK 416 - sorry, "resembels" the HK 416, [3] - the circle would close and the Mk 556 would be based on the HK 416 - its competitor in the trials. No, no copy, a varation of the basic design. That is the funny part. Most competitors shared a lot of features. They all had to take the same tender in account. The winner is not really better than the others. The German sources indicate that Haenel was deemed an economically wise choice.--Francis Flinch (talk) 15:54, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Yes, they were just cheaper.[4] 120.000 rifles for 250 Million Euros makes some 2000 Euros per rifle. Alexpl (talk) 16:43, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
