Age?

Present article (12 May 07) says 2.51 Ga in first sentence, and 1.9-2.3 Ga in second. First web reference says 1.6-1.9 Ga for 'Gunflint range iron formations' (is this the same thing?); second web reference says 2 Ga. Is it that poorly dated? Can anyone improve this with a good reference? --Zamphuor 16:52, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Move

I moved the page because "Gunflint chert" appears to be the correct capitalization: it is described that way in the article, "chert" didn't seem to be a proper noun, and I saw it written that way in a paleontology book I own. However, I have now seen additional sources with the C capitalized, and I am considering moving it back. Any thoughts? Chris the Paleontologist (talk • contribs) 19:01, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

I've done a bit of looking since my comment on your talk and now think the lower case "c" is best. The Gunflint Formation is the stratigraphic unit which contains a Lower Algal Chert Member, an Upper Algal Chert Member and a limestone member above. See this pdf from Can. J. Earth Sci. 37: 1229–1243 (2000) for details. The lower of the two chert members contains the noted fossils. Vsmith (talk) 23:40, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Eating bacteria

Name

Should be Gunflint Chert, it is a formation name, not a type of chert. Tisquesusa (talk) 13:52, 30 March 2020 (UTC)

Update

I will be editing this wikipedia page as part of a Precambrian Geology class assignment. I plan to make minor edits to the existing intro paragraphs, and plan to add new sections including 'Stratigraphy', 'Age', 'History', 'Microfaunal Diversity', and 'Preservation'. I also plan to add a microscope image of a Gunflint stromatolitic slide to highlight the microorganisms that comprise the Gunflint Chert. Tmahseredjian (talk) 01:19, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
