Early modern weapon

It's far more obscure, but this is also the name shared by a rare type of weapon from the 16th century. It was basically a small shield with a small firearm mounted in the middle, the barrel protruding from the center of the shield. Here are some links to pictures and info for anyone who's interested:

I was thinking of the same thing. Similar weapons were also used in India, descended from their older round shields with spikes mounted in the middle. .45Colt 09:34, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Handgun shields

edit

I have modified the page regarding the reference to SWAT units using "gun shields" with handguns. I have never seen anything such as this, and I suspect the person is thinking of a Ballistic shield, which is not the same sort as the article is referring to. It is possible that there are small bulletproof glass shields that mount directly to a handgun in the same fashion as rifle-mounted shields, but the reference to "semi-automatic slides getting caught in the firing port" clearly refers to a separate shield, as this wouldn't be an issue with a handgun-mounted shield. I certainly can't find anything suggesting that police use anything other than ballistic shields with firing ports in them, which may be called "gun shields"..45Colt 09:42, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
