Guddu Barrage Rehabilitation Project

Guddu Barrage is the first amongst three barrages on River Indus in Sindh which is located in District Kashmore in North of Sindh Province, about 188 miles below Taunsa Barrage and about 100 miles upstream of Sukkur Barrage. It was commissioned in 1962 with design discharge of 1,100,000 Cusecs water for providing irrigation services to over one million hectares of agriculture land through 03 main off-taking canals, i.e. Sindh Begari Feeder (SBF), Desert Pat Feeder (DPF) on the right bank and Ghotki Feeder (GF) on the left bank. Barrage has 65 main gates and 25 head regulators’ gates of the off-taking canals. Notwithstanding the barrage has gone aged above 50 years and hence requires rehabilitation. In this context, Feasibility/Technical study was conducted for preparing Rehabilitation & Modernization of Guddu Barrage project with identified Scope of works as below; (i) Gates Replacement of Barrage and three head regulators of canals, including replacement of electrical and hydro-mechanical lifting equipment, modification to left divide wall and construction of staff residents and O & M office. (ii) Building works. (iiI) River Training Works. Thus project was approved by the World Bank with original cost credit US$188 million equivalent and with effective on November 5, 2015.
