Talk:Grand Portage, Minnesota

Please change "Ontario" to "Northwestern Ontario". We who live in "NWO" identify as a completely separate region from 'ontario'. Think: West Virginia versus Virginia, except even more so (we are 1,000 miles away from Toronto and Toronto considers us a bunch of rednecks and hillbillies anyway). Since we are completely shut out of the booming 'ontario' economy, we have nothing in common with them; indeed, we have much more in common with Grand Portage, Minnesota, and the rest of the Upper Midwest. Thank you.

Such a change seems unneeded, even though I live in Minnesota I know that just because Thunder Bay is very similiar to most cities, Toronto is MUCH different. Besides Northwestern Ontario could cause some confusion.65.126.173.217 22:39, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

History edit

It seems very strange that this article is missing a history section. Grand Portage was extremely important in the history of North America before the 19th century. Quite frankly, had it not been for the technicalities of how the treaties were worked out between the U.S. and Britain, Grand Portage very well might have become a major North American city.

A history section here would seem essential. Check out

The Grand Portage story (there are many, many other accounts as well)
