I don't have access to the book, so I can't comment on this text's veracity one way or another, but how does this put any sort of limitation on a song's inclusion? The movie and soundtrack bothsp came out in 1990, so this just means every song on Earth until this point.:

"For example, if a scene took place in the 1970s, he could use any song that was current (1990) or older."

If this is true, the rule listed above it is mostly extraneous and could be boiled down to: "Scorsese did not limit the song selection to only contemporary songs." or "Any song, regardless the date of release, was permitted inclusion in the soundtrack."

Anyone got access to the book? The only way I can reconcile all the text is if it ought to be "(1970s) or older" instead. --1p2r3 (talk) 03:13, 11 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
