Talk:God's Wife of Amun

History of the office edit

It would be nice to have a source for the claim that the office dates back to the 10th and 12th dynasties. Given that Amun did not come into prominence until the 12th dynasty the existence of a God's wife of Amun at those times seems peculiar.

The latter part is just confusing. The page is about the God's Wife of Amun, so how are the God's wives from cults of other deities related to this? 2602:306:30D7:2290:7D13:8A03:EF65:B542 (talk) 16:26, 1 March 2015 (UTC) Anneke BartReply

Questionable Title edit

I’m fairly certain that ḥmt-nṯr is simply the feminine form of ḥm-nṯr (“priest,” lit.'servant of god') and that there is no such title as “God’s Wife of Amun,” but rather simply the "Priestess of Amun." In fact, whenever the title ḥmt-nṯr is used in reference to a deity, the Thesaurus Linguae Aegyptiae translates it as “priestess.” On the other hand, when standing on its own ḥmt-nṯr may mean either “queen consort” or “priestess," depending on the context.
