• " Jesuit College in Połock" our article is at Jesuit College in Polotsk and that article makes no mention of the traditional(?) spelling you use here.
  • All of the sources I find that are contemporaneous with the subject's life spell it as Połock. I surmise that that was how the name of the city was spelled at the time it was part of the Russian Empire. I can only conclude that the reason the article on the Jesuit College is spelled the modern way is because the city it would be in today is spelled that way. Ergo Sum 16:38, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

• Never convinced we need to link major geographical locations like Peking, London, Lisbon and Rome.
  • I might respectfully disagree. I've come around to your view for other locales, but I think cities should generally be linked on first instance. Ergo Sum 16:41, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
    • Well MOS:OVERLINK really dissuades from linking places like London when they are unambiguous. I think it's probably a case of thinking "would a reader really not understand "Rome" and need a link to make sure it wasn't any other "Rome"?" and I think the answer in pretty much every case is no.       • Fair enough. I've removed links for London and Rome, but I've kept those to Lisbon, Stockholm, and Copenhagen. From an American perspective, I suspect the average reader might actually appreciate links to cities that aren't global super-cities. I've also kept Peking, just because it is the historic name for current Beijing and many younger readers might not know that. Ergo Sum 18:20, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

• "Due to the nearly worldwide suppression of the Jesuit order" was this beyond the pope's influence or just because of the pope?
  • It was nearly worldwide because Catherine the Great allowed the Jesuits to operate in Russia. As I understand it, the pope had the legal authority (per canon law) to suppress the Jesuits in Russia too, but it would have been politically untenable. Ergo Sum 16:43, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
• Perhaps worth somewhere noting that Polotsk is in modern-day Belarus.

• Again, Peking, Stockholm, Portugal, Copenhagen, Rome etc are all well known geographical locations and don't need to be linked.

  • Technically his appointment wasn't to the USA, per se, but to the mission of the Jesuits, whose ecclesiastical territory wasn't precisely defined, and operated outside the USA from time to time. In any event, calling it USA probably as accurate as calling it America, so I've changed it. Ergo Sum 18:26, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
