Typo in main map edit

The main map ( [[File:LocationofPrecordillera01.png| ) states "Atlantic Ocean" instead of "Pacific Ocean". I don't have the tools to fix it. Could somebody help please. Many thanks. Chienlit (talk) 09:35, 30 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

1) I think add a beautiful picture of Precordillera will attract reader. 2) Add the blue tap to Laurentian, Precordillera, Gondwana, Iapetus Ocean, etc. in the stage of evolution and, Cuyania in the fossils. 3) Spelling mistake in trilobite in fossils. and north-south length under the current location 4) May add some pictures in the model under debate.

reviews from Jennifer edit

Hi wayne:^D! I will avoid what vincent has already mentioned, and here are some of my suggestions:

  1. I found it difficult to understand some of the terms used in introduction already, e.g. Pre-Appalachian, Texas promontory, para-autochthonous Gondwanan origin, etc.. I would suggest adding link of related Wiki page, or explain these terms/concepts in further details to provide more background information for the reader before they proceed to the next sections. If there are other easier wordings that can resemble the same meanings you may consider replacing them.
  2. Since the page is introducing the Evolution of Precodillera, it may be better to add the geological time period/precise ages correspond to the occurrence of continents/orogenies (even if some of them occur only in a specific period) from the very beginning to give a sense of time to the reader. Also, add in the corresponding time period for the sentence "which is strongly contrast with those of the surrounding geological provinces in southern South America".
  3. The introduction part does not explain the Plan view on its right clearly. It may be better to add another paragraph to explain the figure rather than putting it briefly in the figure description only.
  4. I may misunderstand the content but the evolution diagram is showing the Famatina Orogen on the East of Gondwana instead of "forearc system developed at the subduction zone at the West of Gondwana, forming the Famatina Orogen"? (I mean the whole Gondwana is on the western part of the diagram but the Famatina orogen situates at the East of Gondwana. I am so sleepy right now blaaa I may overlook/misunderstand your figure roarrrrrrzzzzzZ)
  5. Missing sources for some of the content (e.g. Stage 1: Separation from Laurentia)

I think the evolution diagram is really helpful for me to visualize the whole evolution process. I understand there may have some information not yet added (e.g. Models under debate can have more details) in your wiki page, but so far I can follow most of the content and I found it very intriguing! Looking forward to the finished products:^D! Jjyyu8 (talk) 17:42, 23 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi Wayne, here are some suggestions for your Wiki page.

  1. Similar to Jennifer, I also got quite confused by a lot of technical terms you included in the introduction and I think you need to explain them briefly in order to make readers understand better.
  2. For the lithology part, I think maybe you can try to add a diagram showing a schematic geological map of the area along with sections, since this may be a bit clearer for readers to catch on. (You may see Tanya's Wiki page, she got a pretty good diagram you may use as reference) I think you should also describe more details on what lithology sequence being included in the area, like if there is some marked tectonic changes or depositional changes, given that you are doing a topic of Evolution.
  3. Since the geologically process is mainly related to drifting/ plate movement, it may be also good if you add an diagram of a generalised global map in the past to outline where was Precodillera in the past. (like all reconstruction work of supercontinent)
  4. Adding ages for different tectonic stages is important, especially in evolutionary diagram so that readers can have a sense of how quick the motion drives.
  5. I think the citing references early would help you a lot more because it will get confusing. I recommend you try the pen tool within edit on top right corner because I found it very convenient to cite/re-cite my already inputed sources.

Review from Christy edit

Hi Wayne! Here are some suggestion for your page.

1. There are a few typos.

  • In the introduction, there is an extra full stop mark. "Precordillera is proposed as a moving micro-continent at southeast part of the ancient continent Laurentia (current location: North American plate).. "
  • First sentence of section "Evidence of rifting". "The Early-Cambrian to Ordovician deposit of Precordillera are composed of 3000m thickness of marine carbonate sections with multiple phrase of grain size variation. (citation)"
  • First row of table "Summary of Cambrian-Ordovician Stratigraphy (top to bottom)" (Erosional unconformity - ententional rifting)
  • Section "Model of Evolution". "multiple geological models has been issued to explain the evolution of the Precordillera contributing to the Pre-Andean history of Gondwana. ()()()"

2.It will look better if you put the "map view of microcontinent model" picture directly below the Micro-continent model paragraph, instead of putting this bug picture on the right side and squeeze the words at the left side.

3.It will be clearer if you elaborate more about the evolution of Precordillera from Early Cambrian to Mid-Ordovician, as I think the "Evolutionary diagram of Precordillera from Early Cambrian to Mid-Ordovician" is not very related to the content of stratigraphic records section.

4. "Evolutionary diagram of Precordillera from Early Cambrian to Mid-Ordovician" is a bit confusing to me. Is there 2 subduction zone at the same time?

Overall it is informative and well-structured.

Review from Tanya edit

Hi Wayne:)! Here are some suggestions for your page:

1. For the figure of Continental-collision model, I think you can add some labels to make it more detailed and clearer, just like what you have drawn in the figure of micro-continent model. For example, you may add the label to the black rectangular block to indicate it's Precordillera; also you may add the time/age for diagrams a and b.

2. In the section of "Models of evolution", you have mentioned the alternative idea to interpret Precordillera as not a part of Laurentia. Since you have shown two figures to explain the previous two models, I think it is better to include a picture for the last idea too so that readers can understand their difference more easily.

3. Lastly, there are some spelling mistakes throughout the whole page, for example, the words "olenllid", "ententional", "comples" and "Subtial" that are written in the table. You may better check the spelling again for the whole page!:)

Review from Ron edit

1. I have spotted few unneccessary components in your text, for example: after the first sentence of the stratigraphic records, there is a (citation) You may delete it.

2. What is meant by syn-rift development under the section Cerro Totra Formation? You may try to elaborate it further.

3. It would be great if you can use a diagram to illustrate the stratigraphy column of the Cambrian-Ordovician stratigraphy.

1. Does anyone else see a problem with the map photo, specifically the ocean name positioned to the west of these land areas? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.79.254.10 (talk) 14:37, 6 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
