I think the sessions may be out of sequence some how. The nova scotia legislature site has a different date for the 53rd session and so on. Check this page: [1] though the end year itself on that page is wrong. Windjade 19:53, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Order of Legislative Assemblies

If you look at the booked A Directory of the members of Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia, 1758-1958 and the expanded version to 1983 - they list all of the legislative assemblies according to the order presented in the main article. This first volume was published by the Provincial Archives in 1958 under the direction of the Provincial archives Charles Bruce Fergusson and the expanded version was published in 1983 by the NS Legislature under the direction of the Legislative Librarian. Since these books were contemporary to when they were published I would believe them to be the authority on the order and numbering of the legislative assemblies.--Disasternat 23:16, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

What assembly are we actually on?

I beleive there is something wrong here too, or at least an inconsistency between our Wikipedia articles. This list says that we are on the 59th Assembly but the article for the current assembly says its the 60th. I don't know which one is incorrect or how to find out but i think we need to find out where this mistake/inconsistency is. Sethpt (talk) 01:00, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I fixed the numbering from the 60th back to Confederation, but now we have a problem. There is no 23rd assembly, but if I keep moving assemblies up a number, I'll have to move the 1st to the 2nd, and we know that the 1st is already on the right place. I checked the list of elections (they don't have a list of assemblies) on the Nova Scotia Legislature site and it appears to match with the list of assemblies, but that is only post-confederation. Sethpt (talk) 03:51, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

The pre-confederation dates seem to have sources as well. There must be something strange we're missing here. For example, maybe there was one unelected assembly before the first elected one. Okay, so according to the Information Services Manager at the Nova Scotia Legislative Library, the hilarious answer is: someone in 1860 made a mistake and labelled the 21st Assembly as the 22nd, and that mistake has been perpetuated in the official numbering ever since. So it is the 21st Assembly that does not exist. This will be bit tricky to express. Should there be a redirect on 21st General Assembly of Nova Scotia or should there be a stub there saying "this assembly never happened"? --Arctic Gnome (talk • contribs) 15:46, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

I like the redirect idea, with a note on this page, the 22nd Asssembly page, and maybe the one for the 20th. The stub page seems kind of unneccesary, in my opinion, when it can be explained without a random stub about nothing. Sethpt (talk) 20:53, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

The current Assembly (2014) purports to be the 66nd but is actually the 66st. The foregoing discussion is generally correct but not the full story. The first error occurred in 1829 when the statutes were labelled as being of the 3rd Session of the 14th Assembly instead of the 13th. The 1829 Journal (the official record of the proceedings) did not make the error. The statutes continued with the error until 1860 when the Journal, no doubt perceiving that the statutes were correct and the Journal wrong, copied the error by calling the 1st Session of the 21st Assembly the 1st Session of the 22nd Assembly. The statutes and Journals were in sync (and in error) until 1862 when the statutes made a further error by calling the 3rd Session of the 21st Assembly the 3rd Session of the 23rd Assembly. The statutes and journals remained out of sync (and both in error) until 1864 when they both made a "correction". These "corrections" were made to the 1st Session of the 22nd Assembly making the Journal correct but the statutes now out by only one Assembly rather than two! In 1865, the Journal re-instated the error starting with the 2nd Session. This put the Journal and the statutes in sync but both wrong. The Journal has continued this error without change to the present day. The statutes on the other hand made further errors in 1873 2nd Session (reversed in 1874 3rd Session) and 1875 1st Session (reversed in 1877 3rd Session). Since 1877 the statutes and Journal have remained in sync and in error. I haven't checked the early Hansard to see how it was labelled.
