First official Contact?

edit

It was the first official contact between the American government and the Plains Indians. Lewis and Clark Expedition was really the first official contact with the Plains Indians. Luke (talk) 13:04, 31 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

You are right this should be clarified. I am not sure exactly how to do that, because the expedition was significant as the first official contact with southern plains Indians, meaning those not along the Missouri River. If you have some better wording, I encourage you to change it. If you have a source please cite it, but if you do not please include a "citation needed" tag.
