Lawrence County and Townships map

edit
  • Why does the Lawrence County Townships map in the Infobox (appear) "skewed"?

i.e. North-South meridian is NOT vertical (Township boundaries are usually surveyed to be due North-South)

  • Where did Image:Map_of_Lawrence_County_Ohio_With_Municipal_and_Township_Labels.PNG in the Infobox originate from?

i.e. looking for a "cookbook recipe" on how to recreate it.

  • Did they come from?
Counties and Townships map and
Counties map
from: MISCELLANEOUS MAPS, Geological Survey, Ohio Department of Natural Resources
  • If so, the issue was/is that the originals (in the PDFs) used map projections which skewed North-South.
  • If County-Townships map Images can be aligned so that the North-South meridian is vertical,

then it is possible to re-use the maps with Wiki "Location map" templates and NAD 83 coordinates (from Google, GPS, etc.) to plot locations on them.

  • In theory, the data used to produce the maps can be downloaded from some Ohio GIS system,
and the maps can be redrawn from the data so downloaded with the appropriate map projection.

Look at the image description: it came from a Census Bureau map of the entire state. Ohio's land was surveyed many different ways, and the township borders aren't always east-west or north-south: look at this map of Logan County. Nyttend (talk) 22:44, 2 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
