Lack of Neutrality

This article repeatedly mentions throughout the article that job dissatisfaction, workers compensation, etc. is positively associated with Failed Back Syndrome. A substantial number of back surgeries fail right from the start. Frequently back surgery results in creating some repetition of the same medical problem in the lower or upper spinal disc, requiring surgical attention.

Clearly there are situations where there is no other option but cutting the back, but reality shows only about 2% of all back pain patients may result in "must cut" category.

Acronym - FBS or FBSS

The article begins by using 'FBS' for 'Failed Back Syndrome' but later changes to 'FBSS' and uses that for the remainder of the article. There is no reason given for the change nor any indication of what the second 'S' might stand for.

Does 'FBSS' mean 'FBS Syndrome' where the 'S' in 'FBS' already stands for 'Syndrome'? Something similar is not unknown in other acronyms. For example, the commonly used 'PIN Number' when the 'N' in 'PIN' already stands for 'Number' - in full, 'Personal Identification Number Number', or ATM Machine, where the 'M' in 'ATM' stands for 'Machine' - in full 'Automatic Teller Machine Machine'.

Cost

Clearly back surgeries are not only very expensive and take long healing and recovery times which may also increase their costs by having to be laid up on recovery bed. Most back surgery bills can cost as low as $15,000.00 to $150,000.00 each depending on complexity and many other factors.
