Copyright problems

Barring verification of permission (either at the site of publication or via e-mail to the Wikimedia Foundation), we are not able to use or closely paraphrase text from previously published sources. Copyright concerns about this article were raised at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2010 January 16. Evaluation shows that in spite of efforts to address these, concerns remain. In addition to these particularly problematic passages, other content follows very closely on that source. I'm afraid that this constitutes an unusable derivative work.

While facts are not copyrightable, creative elements of presentation - including both structure and language - are. So that it will not constitute a derivative work, this material should be completely rewritten in the temporary space that is now linked from the article's front. The essay Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing contains some suggestions for rewriting that may help avoid these issues. Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-04-13/Dispatches, while about plagiarism rather than copyright concerns, also contains some suggestions for reusing material from sources that may be helpful, beginning under "Avoiding plagiarism".

Alternatively, if the material can be verified to be public domain or permission is provided, we can use the original text with proper attribution.
